NDA Vacancies 2023: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) released NDA 2 vacancy 2023 on May 17, 2023. The vacancies have been released along with the notification. A total of 395 vacancies have been announced for NDA 2 2023 exam. Separate vacancies have been announced for Army, Navy and Air Force wings of National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Acacemy Course. NDA 2 vacancy 2023 has been announced for the courses beginning at National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy in July 2024. NDA 2 vacancy 2023 for women candidates is different for different branches. UPSC has allowed women candidates to apply for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). This is for the first time that NDA vacancies have been announced for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). Earlier, male candidates were allowed to apply for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). Out of the total 395 vacancies, 208 vacancies are for Army, 42 for Navy, 120 for Air Force and 25 for Indian Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme). For NDA 2, the number of NDA vacancies has been released for women candidates. Total 35 vacancies have been announced for women candidates. 

NDA 1 vacancy 2023 was announced on December 21, 2022. A total of 395 vacancies were announced for the recruitment exam. Out of the total vacancies, 19 were for women candidates. In 2021, a total of 400 NDA vacancy was announced for NDA 1 & 2 exams and 19 NDA seats were for women candidates. There were no vacancies for women candidates in Indian Naval Academy.

A total of 5,75,854 candidates applied for the NDA 2 2021 exam and 3,57,197 candidates took the examination. A total of 8009 candidates, including 1002 women candidates had passed the NDA 2 2021 written exam.

NDA exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for admission to Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Courses. The selection process of NDA comprises the written exam and SSB Interview.

Q:   Does NDA select cadet according to academy vacancy or service vacancy?

A:
NDA select cadet based on service vacancy. It is according to the number of officers required at that time. But the academy accommodation also plays a role. The existing infrastructure at the academy can accommodate a certain number of cadets each term. If it is extended or the intake is greater than the capacity, the training standards will drop.

Q:   How many vacancies have been announced for the Army wing of NDA in 2023?

A:
A total of 208 vacancies are announced for the Army wing of NDA. A total of 10 vacancies are earmarked for female candidates. The eligibility criteria for admission to Army wing of NDA is Class 12/HSC pass from a recognised board or university.

Few important points related to NDA vacancies are given below:

  • NDA vacancies are provisional and may change depending on the availability of training capacity of the National Defence Academy and Indian Naval Academy
  • Candidates are required to specify clearly in the online NDA application form, the services for which they wish to be considered in the order of their preferences
  • Candidates are also advised to indicate as many preferences as they wish for NDA recruitment so that while offering appointments due consideration can be given to the preferences as per their ranks in the merit list
  • Candidates should note that they will be considered under NDA recruitment 2022 for appointment to those services only for which they have expressed their preferences
  • UPSC will not entertain any request for addition/alteration in the preferences indicated in the NDA Recruitment 2023 application
  • Admission will be offered to candidates on the basis of NDA results of the written exam and SSB Interview 

NDA Selection Process

NDA selection process comprises two stages-written exam and SSB Interview. Candidates need to first appear for the written exam. Those qualifying the written exam are called for SSB interview. The final selection is done based on written exam and SSB interview.

Q:   How the candidates are selected against NDA vacancies?

A:
The selection process of NDA includes the written exam and SSB Interview. The written exam is held for 900 marks and the SSB interview is conducted for 900 marks. The final selection of candidates is done based on the written exam and SSB interview. Candidates are required to secure separate qualifying marks in the written exam and interview. The final merit list is prepared out of 1800 marks.

Q:   How many students apply for NDA exam and qualify it?

A:
Around two to three Lacs candidates apply for NDA exam. The written exam of NDA is cleared by around 8000 to 10,000 candidates. Such candidates are called for SSB interview. The pass percentage in SSB interview is around 10 to 15 per cent. Many students are rejected on medical ground as well. After the medicals, a merit list is prepared which features around 580 to 650 candidates. First 350 to 380 candidates are invited for admission to NDA and INAC. Some candidates do not join and some are not able to cope up with the tough training process. NDA selection process is bit tough therefore it takes about six months preparation to crack the exam.

NDA Exam Pattern

The written exam of NDA comprises two papers-Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). The test paper for Maths carries 120 questions and GAT paper. The total marks allotted to the written exam are 900. Candidates qualifying the written exam are called for SSB interview. The first stage of SSB interview comprises OIR and PP & DT tests and the second stage comprises psychology tests and the conference. Candidates need to secure 25 per cent to qualify each section. There are negative markings in the written exam. For incorrect answers in GAT, 1.33 marks are deducted for wrong answers. For incorrect answers in Maths, 0.83 marks are deducted.

NDA Salary

Stipend offered to the Gentlemen Cadets during the entire duration of training in service academies that is during the training period at Indian Military Academy (IMA) is INR 56,100 per month (starting pay in Level 10). On successful commissioning, the pay matrix of Commissioned Officer is fixed in the first cell of level 10.

Hi, Eligibility Criteria to write NDA exam- (a) Nationality : A candidate must either be : i) a citizen of India, or ii) a subject of Bhutan, or iii) a subject of Nepal, or iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India with the intention of permanently settling in India, or v) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will not, however, be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. (b) Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status : A candidate must be an unmarried male and have attained the age of 16 1/2 years and must not have attained the age 19 years on the 1st January or 1st of July of the year succeeding the year of examination. Candidates must not marry until they complete their full training. A candidate who marries subsequent to the date of his application, though successful will not be selected for training. A candidate who marries during training shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the Government. (c) Educational Qualifications : For Army wing of National Defence Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at the Naval Academy :- 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University. Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply.

Q:   What is NDA syllabus?

NDA syllabus outlines the topics and sub-topics which candidates need to cover for the exam. NDA syllabus is divided into Maths and GAT. The level of the syllabus is of Classes 10, 11 and 12 standards. Yes, NDA is conducted for candidates who have passed or are appearing in Class 12. Candidates who wish to join the Air Force and Naval wings of NDA and 10 2 Cadet entry scheme must study Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in Class 12.
