A large number of candidates apply for the RRB Group D exam conducted by RRBs. In 2022, a total of 1.15 crore candidates had applied for the exam against 1,03,769 vacancies. RRB Group D application form is released online by RRBs. The application process comprises several stages such as registration, uploading of scanned photograph and signature, filling the detailed application form and fee payment.

In RRB Group D registration form, candidates are required to enter their name, date of birth and father name, mother name, Aadhaar Number, SSLC/Matric registration number, year of passing, mobile number, and email-ID. Candidates need to apply online for the exam. The hard copy of the application form is not sent to candidates by post. RRB Group D exam is conducted to select candidates for Level 1 posts in Indian Railways. RRB Group D salary for all posts ranges between INR 22,500 to 25,380 depending on the place they are posted. The basic pay of RRB Group D employees is INR 18,000 as per the Seventh pay matrix.  RRB Group D salary serves as a motivation to lakhs of aspirants. RRB Group D selection process comprises CBT, PET/PST, document verification and medical exam. The transgender candidates are given relaxation in the PET. CCAAs trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in their NCVT exam in preparation of final merit list after the conduct of CBT. Based on the performance of candidates in CBT subject to their qualifying in PER, candidates are called for document verification as per their merit and options. In case of two or more candidates secure same marks, their merit position is determined by age criteria i.e., older person is placed at higher merit and in case age is same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name is taken into account to break the tie. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. All candidates clearing the DV are called for medical exam. RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.

The recruitment of RRB Group D includes various technical and non-technical posts. The job profiles differ as per the hierarchy level of different railway departments. Candidates who join RRB Group D based on their performances are promoted to higher posts. Also, candidates become eligible for departmental examinations after three years of service. The job profile of RRB Group D is given below:

• Candidates appointed to the post of RRB Group D are responsible for partial or complete disassembly of the item
• Candidates are assigned to inspect the damaged, defective or worn parts
• Candidates are responsible for repair or replacement of damaged parts
• Candidates are responsible for testing, and trial run prior to returning the item to its full operating level

Candidates must begin their RRB Group D preparation by going through the exam pattern as it is regarding the overall structure of the test. After going through the exam pattern, candidates should go through the topics given in the syllabus. Candidates should also go through the previous years' question papers to know the types of questions asked in the exam as well as the important topics. The exam pattern of RRB Group D comprises-CBT, Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification and Medical Exam. The total marks allotted to CBT are 100. The PET is qualifying in nature, however, it is mandatory to clear this stage. The medical exam is conducted to assess whether the candidates is physically fit to perform the job assigned to him. The final empanellment is done based on the performance in CBT provided candidates qualify PET, Document Verification and Medical Exam.

The question paper of RRB Group D CBT is formulated in 15 languages Hindi English Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipur, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu. The RRB paper, or Railway Recruitment Board paper, can be in various languages depending on the region or the specific examination. However, the majority of RRB papers are in the official language of the state in which the examination is taking place. For example, if the examination is taking place in Tamil Nadu, the paper is likely to be in Tamil. Likewise, if the exam is taking place in Kolkata, the language of the question paper will be in Bengali. Candidates can opt to choose the exam language while filling the application form.

While preparing the syllabus of RRB Group D the topics given in the same have been framed keeping in mind the nature of the job profile. The educational qualification for RRB Group D exam is Class 10 pass. Therefore, the syllabus has been formulated based on the given educational qualification. Once candidates qualify for the computer-based tests of RRB Group D exam, then they are called for Physical Efficiency. Passing Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is mandatory, and it is qualifying in nature. In PET, the male candidates should be to lift and carry 35 Kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down and should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 4 minutes and 15 seconds in one chance. In PET, the female candidates should be able to lift and carry 20 Kg of weight for a distance of 100 metres in 2 minutes in one chance without putting the weight down and should be able to run for a distance of 1000 metres in 5 minutes and 40 seconds in one chance.

The selection process comprises CBT, Physical Efficiency Test (PET), Document Verification, and Medical Examination. The recruitment is conducted to select candidates for the various posts in Level-1 of the seventh CPC pay matrix such as Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant in various technical departments (Electrical, Mechanical, and S&T departments), Assistant Pointsman, and many more. 

RRB Group D notification 2025 was released by the Railway Recruitment Boards. The notification was released in PDF form and comprises the details related to the exam. The selection process of RRB Group D comprises Computer Based Test,  Physical Efficiency Test (PET)/Physical Standard Test (PST), Document Verification and Medical Exam. CCAAs trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in NCVT for preparation of the final merit list. They are also exempted from PET/PST.

RRB Group D application form 2025 was released on January 23, 2025 by the Railway Recruitment Boards. RRB Group D application form should be filled online only. The application fee is INR 500 (for all candidates except the fee concession categories). The fee for PwBD/Female /Transgender/ Ex-Servicemen/SC/ST/Minority Communities/ Economically Backward Class is INR 250. Candidates can pay the fee both online and offline. Candidates are not required to sent the hard copy of the application form.

Candidates are required to apply online for the exam.

As per the minimum academic qualification, candidates who wish to apply for the RRB Group D exam must have qualified 10+2 while the age limit required for the exam is 18 to 36 years. Candidates must adhere to the eligibility criteria prescribed for the exam. Candidates not following the eligibility criteria are rejected from the recruitment process.

The application fees for RRB Group D exam are INR 500 for all candidates except the fee concession categories. For PwBD/Female/Transgender/ Ex-Servicemen/SC/ST/Minority Communities/Economically Backward Class, the application fees are INR 250. The application fee can be paid online. On appearing in CBT, candidates belonging to reserved categories are given full refund of application fee. Those belonging to unreserved categories are given partial refund of application fee. RRB Group D application fee can be paid online using Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card/UPI.
