The Savitribai Phule Pune University had decided to scrap the two-test admission process for PhD and MPhil courses which stretched over 3 months thus delaying admissions up to 6 months.

The university, is all set to introduce one entrance test of 100 marks, results of which will be announced within hours. Earlier, the candidates had to take two tests of 200 marks each in a gap of 3-4 months. While, the first test was a general aptitude test covering logical reasoning, numerical ability, reasoning and language aptitude, the second test was subject specific carrying descriptive theoretical questions. Only those who cleared the first exam were eligible to appear in the second exam. The entire process of conducting the first exam, checking the papers announcing the result and conducting another test, checking the paper and announcing the result would take 3-4 months, sometimes 6 months delaying the admission process and consequently, commencement of classes.

Now, the candidates will have to answer 100 MCQs and the results will be declared within hours, thus saving time on further admission process.
