Types of Law Specialisations

The management, operation and creation of the companies are governed by Corporate law. Under these several financial regulations, the rights of the stakeholders, mergers, governance, and acquisitions are taken care of. This is to ensure that businesses work efficiently, properly, and legally while maintaining the interests of the management, investors, employees, and stakeholders.

This is the most important law as it defines offenses against society. It regulates the punishments for wrongful acts. Investigations, arrests, trials, defenses, and sentencing are done under this law. It works towards maintaining public harmony, avoiding crime, protecting people and victims and ensuring providing fair legal process

To keep a check on the digital world, to avoid cyber crime, for data protection, to maintain online privacy, digital evidence and electronic contracts, this law is important. It makes sure that the technology is used safely. It keeps check on the usage of the internet, in turn protecting individuals and companies from hacking, fraud, identity theft, and misuse of digital information.

To deal with non criminal fights between individuals this law is needed. It covers personal, property, torts, negligence and contract rights. It works on resolving conflicts providing compensation and protecting private rights through fair procedures. It ensures that a peaceful settlement is reached.

It enforces and implements the country's constitution. It looks after the fundamental rights, separation of powers, governmental structure, judicial review and limits on state authority. It makes sure rule of law within democratic systems.

It works on regulating the environment and nature. It addresses the pollution control, conservation, climate policies and sustainable development. It makes sure ecological balance is maintained. It governs use of natural resources, enforces environmental standards and protects ecosystems.

It works on various family related matters like marriage, divorce, child custody, adoption, maintenance and domestic violence. It works on protecting family members rights, resolving disputes and promoting positive result in sensitive personal matters.

It is a body that controls the relationship between countries, treaties, human rights and dispute settlement. It works on promoting global peace, conflict resolution and domestic laws that affects trade.

It is to protect the rights of the creators and owners of various works. It includes music, writing, designs, etc. It is to make sure that no one takes credit of someone else creativity and efforts.

 

Q:   How will I know if I am eligible to appear in CLAT exam or not?
A:

In order to know if you are eligible or not check the official notification and the eligibility criteria. There is no other way to check the the eligibility criteria.  Do not fill the form without checking the eligibility criteria. 

Q:   What if I am not satisfied with the CLAT seat allotment?
A:

If the candidates is not satisfied with the CLAT seat allotment result, they can either accept or opt for upgradingt the college alloted. The Freeze option is used by candidates to confirm their choice of NLU. Apply for upgrade option is used when candidates want to change the allotted institute to his or her higher choice (upward shifting).

Q:   Can I get NLU if my CLAT Rank is 1500?
A:

Yes, with a CLAT Rank of 1500, you have a very good chance of getting into several good NLUs. Some fo the NLU where your chances are high are NLIU Bhopal or NLU Jodhpur.

Types of Law Degrees in India with Eligibility

In India, the law programmes are offered both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. If you are looking forward to begin your career in law then you can pursue either the five-year integrated law degree or the three-year L.L.B. Know more about it here

Duration: 3 Years

A bachelor’s degree in any stream from a recognized university/college. Minimum marks criteria varies institution wise. Mostly through entrance exam.

Integrated Law Degrees (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BCom LLB, BSc LLB)

Undergraduate

Duration: 5 Years

Should have completed 10+2 from any stream from a recognised board. Minimum marks requirement is mostly 45% to 50%. Mostly through entrance exam.

LLM (Master of Law)

Postgraduate

Duration: 1-2 Years

LLB or a degree from a recognised law university, 50% to 55% is required. Mostly through entrance exam.

PhD in Law/ Doctorate in Law

Doctoral

Duration: 3-5 Years

LLM from a recognised college or university, mostly through entrance exam

Diploma in Law

Diploma

Duration: Mostly 1 year

10+2 for Diploma, LLB or graduation for PG diploma courses

Certificate Courses in Law

Certificate

Duration: One week to 6 months

10+2 or completed graduation

Q:   Can I appear for AIBE Exam in hindi?
A:

The BCI conducts the AIBE Exam in 11 languages. One of the language is hindi too. Hence, candidates have an option to appear for the exam in hindi too.

Qualifying exam

Candidates who have passed a three-year LLB or five-year LLB degree are eligible to appear for the AIBE exam. Therefore, the academic qualifying exam for AIBE candidates is 

  1. 3-year LLB degree,  OR
  2. 5-year integrated LLB degree

Minimum marks in qualifying exam

The BCI mentions no minimum marks are required for appearing in the AIBE exam. However,  a candidate must secure a minimum percentage or grades in their law degree as prescribed by universities for further education. 

Age limit for AIBE exam

There is no upper or lower age limit for appearing in the All India Bar Examination. 

State Bar Council Registration/Enrollment 

A candidate must be registered with their State Bar Councils as an Advocate. As State Bar Council enrollment is mandatory for AIBE eligibility. 

Candidates not enrolled as an advocate with the SBC, will not be able to apply for AIBE XXI 2026-27

Q:   Can the Eligibility for the AIBE Exam be changed?
A:

The BCI changed the AIBE Eligibility Criteria 2026. From this year onwards, candidates in 3-year or 5-year law programmes without a back log are eligible to apply. Also, candidates who have enrolled with BCI can also apply.
