Q:   What is the difference between NEET SS scorecard and merit list?
A:

NEET SS scorecard is an individual document which carries information regarding candidates' obtained scores, percentiles, ranks and qualifying status. On the other hand, NEET SS merit list is a common document which consists of the list of test takers along with their scores and ranks. The NEET SS merit list is released separately for each of the 13 course groups. Both the documents are prepared by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the exam conducting body. The NEET SS scorecard is issued only to candidates who can download it by logging in through their registration credentials and nobody else can access it. NEET SS merit list, on the other hand, is released publicly and includes the All India Rank list of candidates along with their obtained scores, percentiles and state.

Q:   Which information are carried on the NEET SS merit list?
A:

The NEET SS merit list carries the following information about the candidates and their performance in the exam:

  • Candidate Roll Number
  • Application ID
  • Score obtained
  • Merit Position or All India Rank (AIR)

The NEET SS merit list will be released separately for each of the 13 course groups. Candidates should download and refer the merit list for the course they had opted for.

NBE NEET SS Results 2025: Tie-Breaking Criteria

There is no normalisation of marks in NEET SS exam. The merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates, after applying the tie-breaking criteria. While preparing the NEET SS result, the competent authority often discovers that the scores for two or more candidates are equal. To be fair in preparing the NEET SS rank list, the NBE applies this tie-breaking mechanism in the given order-

  • Candidate having lesser number of wrong answers will get a higher rank in the merit list than the others.
  • Candidate having lesser number of wrong answers in Section A of the NEET SS question paper will be placed in a better merit position.
  • Candidate having lesser number of wrong answers in Section B of the NEET SS question paper will be placed in a better merit position.
  • Candidate having lesser number of wrong answers in Section C of the NEET SS question paper will be placed in a better merit position.
  • Candidate obtaining higher aggregate marks (in %) in all MBBS Professional exams will get a higher rank in the merit list.
  • An Older candidate will be placed at a higher rank in the merit list.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Will the NEET SS rank list change if the cut off is revised?
A:

No, revision of the NEET SS cutoff or qualifying percentile will not affect the rank obtained by the candidate in any way. However, in case the NEET SS cutoff is lowered, and more candidates qualify for the exam, then all those candidates will be eligible to participate in the NEET SS counselling process. Last year, additional rounds of NEET SS counselling were conducted since the cutoff was reduced later, to give equal scope to the newly qualified candidates of the exam. However, their merit positions or the All India Ranks did not change.

Q:   How is the NEET SS merit list generated?
A:

According to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the exam conducting authority, the NEET SS merit is generated on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate and application of the prescribed tie-breaking criteria. Equating/scaling and normalisation process is not applied, even though the exam is conducted in multiple days and slots, and for multiple subjects or course groups.
