IIIT Delhi: Fees, Admission 2026, Courses, Placements, Ranking, Cutoff

JEE Main rank is accepted by both DTU and IIT Delhi, followed by the JAC Delhi counselling process for admission to various BTech specialisations. According to the JAC Delhi Round 1 cutoff 2025, the closing rank for CSE admission for the General AI category was 2285. While for IIT Delhi it was 8171.

Therefore, going by the cutoff for both institutions, IIT Delhi is relatively easier for CSE admissions. Although those candidates who qualified for DTU can view other parameters to consider for a better, more knowledgeable decision.

As per the NIRF 2024 ranking under the “Engineering” category, IIIT Delhi ranks 85 among the top Engineering institutes of the country. The total fee for MTech in IIIT Delhi ranges between INR 3.7 lakh and INR 6 lakh. NIT Trichy MTech fee is INR 1.4 lakh. As per placement statistics, the median package is recorded to be INR 18.17 LPA for IIITD and INR 7 LPA for NIT Trichy. Hence, it can be concluded that the fee is higher at IIITD. It must be noted that the fee given for both institutes is as per the official website/sanctioning body. It is still subject to changes and hence, is indicative. But, this institute also has got a good ranking as per a recognised ranking body. Thus, if given a choice, IIIT Delhi is a better option than NIT Trichy.

In 2022, the cutoff ranks for BTech in Computer Science and Engineering at IIIT Delhi other than General category was - 11759 for OBC, 45090 for SC, 61386 for ST, and 5266 for EWS. While the admissions are based on the scores/rank obtained in JEE exam, the last cut offs also change a lot depending on All India quota or Home State. It also varies if the applicant is a female. 

DTU ranks 29 and IIIT Delhi ranks 85 as per the NIRF ranking 2024 under the “Engineering” category. The total tuition fee for BTech is INR 3 lakh – INR 6.4 lakh at DTU and INR 18 lakh at IIIT Delhi. The highest domestic and international package offered during IIIT Delhi BTech placements 2024 stood at INR 49 LPA and INR 109 LPA, respectively. Additionally, in DTU, the highest package offered in 2022 was INR 64.23 lakh. Considering the mentioned data, DTU is definitely a better choice for BTech course aspirants.

The last date for the GATE 2024 registration was October 20 with late fees. The last date for GATE 2024 registration without late fees was October 12. GATE 2024 application form was available online on the IISc Bangalore official website. GATE 2024 registration link is gate2024.iisc.ac.in. The registration window opened on August 30, 2023. Candidates can apply for the GATE exam until the last date. Before filling out the GATE application form, it is advisable for the candidates to check the eligibility criteria. In case a candidate fails to fulfill any of the GATE exam eligibility conditions, then his or her candidature will be cancelled and he or she will not be able to download his or her GATE admit card for 2024. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply by visiting IIIT Delhi official website. Admission to the MTech CSE, ECE, and CB is based on GATE score. For CB course, selected candidates have to go through an online interview round as well. Moreover, for the MTech CB DBT seats, aspirants are selected based on GAT-B exam scores followed by an interview round. Additionally, for MTech (Research) course admission, PGCAT-IIIT Delhi exam score is accepted following which candidates have to go through an offline interview round. For some of the seats, aspirants are selected on merit-basis.

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi offers UG, PG, and Diploma across Engineering stream. The fee strcture of the programmes is INR 25,000- 19.55 lakh. Candidates must apply for the course through the application form and clear the IIIT Delhi admission process in order to be eligible to pay the course fee. Students must note the fee information mentioned here is sourced from the official website/ sanctioning body, however, it is subject to changes. BTech placements at IIIT Delhi are good. BTech placements 2025 as compared with 2024 are mentioned below: 

The technology institute admits candidates to PhD courseson merit and respective entrance exam scores. The accepted entrance exams are GATE/ UGC NET/CSIR NET. Candidates shortlisted based on exam scores are then invited for the interview round for final selections. Moreover, for some of the PhD courses, candidates are selected based on performance in the last qualifying examination. It is also crucial that each of the aspirants meet the required eligibility criteria.

Last year, the closing rank for BTech in Computer Science and Design was 981, which is very close to this range. This was for the General category under the All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category or domicile, one cannot afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since the cutoffs keep changing year on year, it is advisable to try to score better ranks to increase your chances of getting admission to IIIT Delhi.

In 2024, the cutoff ranks for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering with a cutoff rank of 6695, followed by B.Tech. in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence with 7865. On the contrary, B.Tech. in Electronics and VLSI Engineering had a closing cutoff of 11064, making it the least desirable course among the students. While the admissions are based on the scores/rank obtained in JEE exam, the last cut offs also change a lot depending on All India quota or Home State. Additionally, the cutoff rank also varies if the applicant is a female.

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIIT Delhi has been decreasing in the recent years. In 2024, the closing rank for BTech under general category for all India quota was 10559. In 2023, it improved to 8670. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.

IIT Roorkee announced the GATE 2025 result on March 19, 2025. To check the result, candidates will need to enter their GATE enrollment ID, registered email ID, and date of birth. The GATE exam is very prestigious among engineering and Science graduates. It is conducted every year by one of the IITs among the nine IITs. In 2024, IISc Bangalore conducted the GATE exam. The exam also opens various opportunities for engineering and Science graduates to work in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and in the field of research.
