NIT Rourkela’s 22nd Convocation: 2,065 Students Graduate, Including 93 from Abroad and 457 Women

NIT Rourkela celebrated its 22nd Convocation Day, conferring degrees to 2,065 graduate students, including 93 international students and 457 females.

NIT Rourkela Convocation 2025: The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) celebrated its 22nd Convocation, awarding degrees to a graduating class of 2,065 students, including 457 female and 1,608 male students. To recognise academic excellence, the institute will confer a total of 80 awards to outstanding students from the graduating batch of 2024, including 8 Institute Gold Medals, 6 Endowment Gold Medals, 7 Endowment Awards, and 59 Silver Medals for branch toppers.

Uday A. Kaole, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman of the Board of Governors, addressed the gathering virtually, while Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, presented the Director’s Report.

Another key highlight of the 22nd NIT Convocation ceremony was the presentation of Distinguished Alumnus Awards to four notable alumni of NIT Rourkela for their exceptional contributions in various fields:

• Academia and Research: Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India
• Industry and Management: Er. Ashok Kumar Basa, Managing Director, C.E.M. Engineers & Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
• Entrepreneurship and Public Life: Er. R. S. Raghavan, Managing Director, Proman Infrastructure Services Pvt. Ltd.
• Contribution to the Growth of the Institute: Dr. Bhartendu Deo, Head of Electrical, Qatargas North Field Expansion Project

Rise In Female Students at NIT Rourkela

NIT Rourkela has witnessed a notable increase in the number of female graduates across various disciplines. This year, a total of 457 female students comprising over 22% of the graduating cohort received their degrees from NIT Rourkela, including 208 from Bachelor’s programs, 186 from Master’s programs, and 63 from PhD programs.

Another key highlight of this year’s convocation was the graduation of 93 (72 male and 21 female) international students from various academic programs. These include:

• 4 students from the United States of America
• 5 from Afghanistan
• 3 from Sri Lanka
• 5 from Bhutan
• 21 from Bangladesh
• 30 from Nepal
• 25 Non-Resident Indian (NRI) students from India
