The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has launched a Trekking-based Management Development Programme (MDP) for NTPC leaders aimed at enhancing leadership skills through experiential learning. The programme, led by Director BS Sahay, was inaugurated in the Prahalad Classroom at IIM Jammu and will run from February 24 to 26, 2025.

A Unique Leadership Development Initiative

The leadership programme, which takes place in the scenic lower Himalayas, is designed to improve leadership competencies through hands-on experiences. It includes seven comprehensive sessions focused on both personal and professional growth. The batch comprises 49 participants from across India, making it a diverse and dynamic learning opportunity.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by key figures at IIM Jammu, including Jabir Ali, the Dean of Academics, Nitin Upadhyay, the Programme Director, Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson of Executive Education & Consultancy (EE&C) at IIM Jammu, and Chinmaya K Swain, Programme Director at IIM Jammu. In his address, Jabir Ali emphasized the importance of NTPC in shaping India's future, stating, "NTPC is the pride of India and plays an important role in shaping the country’s future. This programme serves as a platform to connect, collaborate, and envision the future together."

Building Synergy Between IIM Jammu and NTPC

Jabir Ali also highlighted the synergy created through the collaboration between IIM Jammu and NTPC professionals. “While IIM Jammu brings academic expertise, NTPC professionals contribute practical knowledge. This creates an opportunity for synergy and co-creation,” said Ali. The programme aims to foster mutual growth by blending academic insights with industry experiences.

Program Director’s Insights on Human Potential

During the ceremony, Nitin Upadhyay, Programme Director at IIM Jammu, underscored the importance of human capacity and growth. He quoted Mark Twain: "The two most important days in life are the day one is born and the day one discovers why," highlighting the profound purpose of leadership development. The inclusion of experiential learning, particularly through trekking, is designed to enhance leaders' problem-solving skills and strategic thinking in real-world scenarios.

Encouraging a Comprehensive Learning Experience

Yes, IIM Jammu accepts CAT Scores for admission to Executive MBA Programme. Apart from CAT, IIM Jammu also accepts GMAT/GRE score or IIM Jammu Admission Test (IIMJAT) Score.

IIM Jammu Admission Test (IIM JAT) is the entrance online proctored test conducted by IIM Jammu. The exam pattern of IIM JAT will consist of three sections:

  1. Quantitative Ability (QA)
  2. Verbal Ability (VA)
  3. Logical Reasoning (LR)

Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson of EE&C at IIM Jammu, welcomed the participants and highlighted the uniqueness of the programme. “This initiative is designed to enhance not only leadership skills but also personal development through field-based learning activities. Participants will experience team-building exercises, sustainability practices, good governance, conflict resolution, and digital transformation,” said Shaikh.

He also encouraged the participants to maximize their learning experience while enjoying the lush green IIM Jammu campus. “While learning through trekking in the Himalayas, the participants will engage in hands-on sessions that empower them to think strategically and master communication for leadership,” added Shaikh.
