PGIMER BSc Nursing 2026: Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, will soon conduct the entrance exam for admissions to BSc (Hons.) Nursing and BSc (Post-Basic) courses. The PGIMER BSc Nursing exam 2026 will be held online at the designated test centres in Punjab, Delhi NCR, and a few states of Himachal Pradesh. The PGIMER Nursing 2026 information bulletin and notification will be released soon. The institute will release the PGIMER BSc Nursing application form 2026 at www.pgimer.edu.in. Students will have to register for the exam and submit their online applications.

The PGIMER Nursing admit card will be released for all the registered candidates.  Students should know that the PGI does not release the answer key of the exam. What is PGIMER BSc Nursing 2026?

PGIMER BSc Nursing 2026 is an entrance exam for admissions to the Undergraduate (UG) level programme, such as BSc (Hons) Nursing and BSc (Post-Basic) Nursing. The exam is conducted annually in online mode. Candidates seeking admission right after class 12 are eligible to appear for the exam, provided they meet the criteria mentioned in information bulletin by PGI Chandigarh. Candidates need to be Class 12 pass with physics, chemistry, and biology subjects from a recognised board/ university, securing at least 45 per cent marks in aggregate (40 per cent for reserved categories). The PGI Chandigarh conducts the exam for admissions to 93 seats in BSc (Hons.) Nursing and 62 seats in BSc (Post-Basic) Nursing.

Q:   I am 30 years of age. Can I apply for the PGIMER BSc nursing programme?

As per the guidelines issued by the exam conducting body, students must not be more than 25 years of age and should not be less than 17 years on 1st September, 2026. Hence, applicants born after 01.09.2008 and before 01.09.2000 are not eligible to apply for the course. For the BSc Nursing course (4 years), only FEMALE students are eligible to apply within this age bracket. 

Q:   Which ID card should I carry along with the PGIMER BSc Nursing admit card?

Who is Eligible for PGIMER BSc Nursing 2026?

PGIMER BSc Nursing eligibility criteria are important to know before applying for the undergraduate, national-level exam. Go through the PGIMER Nursing eligibility below for BSc Nursing 4-year programmer and BSc Post-Basic course-

For the BSc Nursing four-year program: Only female candidates are eligible to apply. They should have passed the Class 12 examination in April or May 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English subjects, or any other equivalent examination with at least 50 percent marks in aggregate. The maximum age of the applicant should not exceed more than 25 years and not be less than 17 years in the year of admission. 

Post-Basic course: The aspirant should have completed the GNM course with a minimum of 50 percent marks in aggregate. Candidates should possess three years of experience in nursing or public health nursing with the state/ central government or any recognised hospital or institute. Aspirants more than 45 years old are not eligible to apply for the exam.

Candidates having Color blindness are eligible provided that their color blindness can be corrected with contact lens and spectacles worn by such candidates. The PGIMER Chandigarh will issue the admit card for the BSc entrance exam tentatively in May 2026. Candidates whose application forms get accepted will be able to download the PGIMER BSc nursing admit card or hall ticket from the PGIMER official website. It will be mandatory to provide the application number and password to access the PGIMER BSc nursing admit card in a downloadable PDF format.

After downloading the hall ticket, check all the details mentioned on it to avoid any issues at the examination hall on the day of the exam. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall without it. The conducting body will not send the admit card to any candidate via post. PGIMER Chandigarh does not release any answer key after the exam concludes. It is not a part of the admission process. To seek admission to the PGIMER Nursing program, at least 50 percent marks are required in the PCB+English subjects in Class 12th. This cutoff is for the General category candidates.

A: 

No, PGIMER Chandigarh conducts a separate entrance exam for granting admission to its BSc nursing program. Candidates cannot apply for admission via NEET Scores only. It is mandatory to appear for the PGIMER BSc nursing entrance exam.

The PGIMER Chandigarh will begin the counselling process tentatively in August 2026. The PGIMER will invite registrations for PGIMER BSc Nursing counselling from all the shortlisted candidates. Candidates will have to prove their eligibility as the eligibility criteria by producing all the mandatory documents. The conducting body will verify the documents in the original and their self-attested photocopies. PGIMER Chandigarh will organise the counselling, and all the invited candidates have to report to the venue of the counselling on the allotted date and time. No candidate will be entertained on any other day besides the allotted date.

Q:   Who conducts counselling for the PGIMER BSc Nursing and BSc Nursing (Post-Basic) programme?
A: 

The counselling for PGIMER BSc Nursing and BSc Nursing (Post-Basic) programme is being conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Candidates are required to be present for the counselling process and formalities at the pre-mentioned time and location. There will tentatively be four rounds of counselling. The round-1 counselling concluded in August 2025. It is mandatory to present a set of self-attested documents along with the originals for verification on the day of PGIMER nursing counselling.  

Q:   When will PGIMER BSc Nursing counselling begin?
A: 

PGIMER BSc Nursing counselling is expected to begin in August 2026 after the announcement of the results. All the information related to the counselling process is shared at the official website, pgimer.edu.in. Candidates who successfully score the minimum qualifying marks will be shortlisted for the counselling round. All processes, such as document verification and fee payment, will be done at the institute itself by the counselling committee. 

Q:   Can I take admission to any other university or institution through PGIMER BSc Nursing?
A: 

No, one cannot take admission to any other university or institution by clearing the PGIMER BSc Nursing exam as no other institute or university accepts PGIMER BSc Nursing scores. Selected candidates will be invited for the counselling process after the exam. No individual intimation is sent to unselected candidates, and no correspondence on the subject is entertained.

Q:   What documents are required for the PGIMER nursing counselling?

To participate in the PGIMER nursing counselling, the candidate must keep the following documents: 

  • Class 12 mark sheet
  • Original copy of the admit card with the signature and seal of the Invigilator
  • Scorecard issued by PGIMER Chandigarh
  • Proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate or Class 10 Certificate).
  • Pass Certificate of the qualifying examination (class 12)
  • Recently clicked passport-sized colour photographs

The PGIMER BSc Nursing exam is of 100 marks. Obtaining around 97 to 99 marks is considered as good score in the exam. Even the PGIMER Nursing cutoff for General category candidates was around 98.7938 percentile in last two years.

The total score in the PGIMER BSc Nursing entrance exam is 100. There are 100 objective-types questions in the exam and each question carries 1 mark. The exam also carries negative marking of 0.25 mark for each incorrect answer.
