NDA Exam: First Batch of 17 Women Cadets Graduate from Triservices Academy

National Defence Academy (NDA), Pune is all set to witness a historic moment on May 30, 2025, when the first batch of 17 women cadets alongside the 300 male cadets will walk past the ‘Antim Pag (Final Step) at the parade ground of the triservices academy. This will mark a historic moment for women in the India Armed Forces. For the first time since its establishment in 1954, NDA will see women cadets graduating from the institution and taking their steps forward as Commissioned Officers.
The graduation of these young women officers reshapes the narrative of gender roles in India’s Military Institutions. These 17 young women were part of the NDA’s 148th course. After graduating from NDA, they will undergo training in the respective defence academies as per their preferences- Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy
NDA opened its doors for female aspirants in 2022 after the Supreme Court passed interim order in August 2021 allowing women to appear in the NDA and Naval Academy examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
NDA Eligibility for Women
NDA eligibility criteria for women is same as the male counterparts. NDA age limit for girl is 16.5 to 19.5 years. For Army, candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent. For Navy and Air Force, candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Candidates must be physically fit to carry on their roles and responsibilities.
Training of Women Cadets at NDA
Training at NDA is same for male and female candidates. The women cadets undergo rigorous physical, academic, and leadership training modules which was traditionally designed for men. The academy prepared them for combat roles.
