The Union Public Service Commission will release the Civil Service (IAS) admit card 2026 for the prelims exam around three weeks before the exam date. The Commission will conduct the UPSC IAS exam on May 24, 2026. The Civil Service admit card will be the only way to know the UPSC exam centre. The candidates will be required to download their admit card from the official website - upsc.gov.in. 

The candidates will be required to show their admit card along with one photo identity proof with them to show it at IAS exam centre. The candidates should note that the UPSC admit card remains valid only for the details mentioned on it that for the date and the exam centre. If the exam gets postponed, the admit card is released again for it. The UPSC admission certificate inform about IAS examination centre of the candidate.

How to download the UPSC IAS Admit Card 2026?

The Union Public Service Commission will conduct the IAS prelims exam 2026 on May 24. As per the notified timeline, the Commission will release the Civil Service Admit card three weeks before the exam date at upsc.gov.in. But in recent years, the Commission is releasing it only ten days before the exam date.  The candidates can download their hall ticket in the following manner:

  • Visit portal upsc.gov.in.
  • Login with registration number and password.
  • Follow the CSE IAS admit card url.
  • Download Civil Service admission e-certificate.

What to do in case facing problem in downloading UPSC IAS admit card?

In case, candidates are not able to download their UPSC IAS admit card, they should contact the commission immediately. The official website informs, “Information in this regard can also be obtained from the Facilitation Counter located in the commission’s office either in person or over phone Nos. 011-23381125/011- 23385271/ 011-23098543.”

UPSC IAS Prelims exam day instructions

UPSC has released the exam day instructions on its official website. The candidates can see below the general instuctions applicable on the exam day.

General Instructions

  • One important change this year the IAS prelims admit card structure. This year the UPSC has printed the identity card number on the admit card itself and the candidates are required to carry the same Government identity card with them to the exam venue.
  • The candidates should reach the UPSC exam centres ten minutes before the commencement time of the IAS prelims exam. The candidates might be asked for frisking and it requires time.
  • All types of electronic or communication devices are prohibited at the exam venue. The candidates cannot carry the mobile device even in the switch-off mode. If the candidate is found with any such device, disciplinary action will be taken against him/her which could lead to a ban from future UPSC exams.
  • If the candidate mark any specific mark on the roll number or the details given in the answer sheet

Q:   Can I get the UPSC admit card from the exam center?
A: 

No, you cannot get the UPSC admit card from the exam center. Candidates are required to download their UPSC admit card from the official website of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) before the examination.

The Commission mention in the official notification that the candidates will be required to download their admit card from the official website and no admit card will be available in offline mode.

Q:   Do we need Colour print out of UPSC admit card?
A: 
The candidates should take the colour printout of the IAS admit card to present the clear picture of theirs. The candidates can take the black and white print out too but in case of blurry photograph, the candidates can suffer at the examination centre while comparing the face of the candidate with the scanned image shown in the admit card. The coloured printout will help the candidates to gain the entry at the examination centre easily.
Q:   What if one does not have the IAS admit card?
A: 

IAS admit card is the authorisation letter required to secure entry to the examination centre. The candidates cannot appear for the IAS exam without the IAS admit card. The IAS admit card is available online so the candidates can download their admit card anytime and anywhere. The examination authority will not allow the candidates (without admit card) to enter the examination centre. 

Q:   Does IAS admit card prohibits any Gadgets at Exam Centre?

The Union Public Service Commission provides a list of gadgets/things which are prohibited at the IAS examination centre. The candidates will be required to read the exam day instructions released by the Commission along with the UPSC admit card.
