SBI Clerk Selection Process 2020

The State Bank of India (SBI) had released notification to fill up more than 8000 vacancies to the post of  Junior Associates (Customer Support & Sales). Candidates must be searching for SBI Clerk selection process. To help aspirants, we have come up with this article on SBI Clerk 2020 selection process.

The selection process of SBI Clerk comprises three stages, Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Test of specified opted local language. Candidates need to qualify each and every stage of selection process inorder to be considered for the final appointment. The preliminary and mains exams are conducted online across various cities in the country. According to the official notification, the preliminary exam is scheduled to be conducted in February/March 2020. The mains exam will be conducted on April 19.

SBI Clerk Selection Process 2020: Complete stages

Preliminary Exam:

The preliminary exam is the first stage of selection process. SBI Clerk prelims exam is objective type comprising three sections, English language, Numerical Ability and Reasoning Ability. The exam paper carries total 100 questions. Total duration of the test is 1 hour. Each test will have separate timings. Maximum marks of the test are 100. 1/4th of mark assigned for the question will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no minimum qualifying marks for any section. Approximately, candidates 10 times the number of vacancies will be selected for the mains exam.

Mains Exam:

The mains exam is the most important stage of the selection process. The marks obtained in the mains exam will be considered for final selection. The mains exam comprises four sections, General/ Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude and Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude. There will be total 190 questions. The questions in objective tests, except for the test of General English will be bilingual i.e. English and Hindi. There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the objective tests. 1/4th of marks will be deducted for wrong answers.

What are the minimum qualifying marks?

Candidates are required to score a minimum percentage of marks on aggregate in the mains exam. 5% relaxation on the minimum qualifying marks will be given to candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PWD and XS. The examination authority will decide the minimum qualifying marks on aggregate. There are no sectional cut off marks.

How the merit list will be prepared?

The merit list for the mains exam will be drawn state-wise and category-wise. Candidates qualifying the mains exam will be placed in the descending order as per their marks, state and respective categories.

Test of the specified local language 

  • Candidates qualifying the mains exam and have studied the specified opted local language in Class 10th and 12th are not subjected to the local language.
  • In case of other candidates who have qualified the mains exam, they need to appear for the local language test.
  • The test is conducted before joining.
  • Candidates need to be proficient in the specified local language or else they will be disqualified.

Final selection of candidates

  • The marks obtained in the mains exam are not considered for the preparation of final merit list.
  • Selection of candidates is done based on their performance in the final merit list provided they qualify the local language test.
  • Verification of eligibility for the qualified candidates is done before final selection.

SBI Clerk 2020 selection process-Waitlist

  • The examination authority will maintain a waitlist of upto 50% of vacancies.
  • Candidates who do not join the organisation or resign, the position will be filled from the waitlist.
  • The waitlist will be valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of final SBI Clerk result.

SBI Clerk prelims result 2025 was announced on October 4. The result can be downloaded by logging with the required credentials. Shortlisted candidates will appear for the Mains exam.
