Disciplined environment with high-quality education, but a lack of a proper campus.
Placements: There is the availability of a placement cell within the college to help students get placements. Around 60-70% of the students get placed with top companies like Detroit, DE Shaw and Taj visiting to offer jobs. The offers range between 6-7 LPA, with the highest package going up to 30 LPA. Departmental internships are offered to all students at organisations like Asian in Global Affairs, ISCS and MAKAIAS, which are usually unpaid. Students can opt for paid internships through the placement cell.
Infrastructure: The classrooms have AV facilities and some are air-conditioned. Labs in the Science department and 2-3 computer labs are also available. There are 4-5 conference halls within the main building and an Auditorium where various events take place. The library is well-equipped with academic texts and journals. The canteen within the building has affordable food options for students, but the quality is moderate and could be improved. A separate Department of Sports takes care of conducting sports events like football and basketball matches, and the Annual Sports Day.
Faculty: The professors are helpful and friendly with the students. They help students clear their doubts through remedial classes. They are well qualified with PhD and Master's degrees in their respective fields. Classes are made interactive and engaging through group discussions. The course curriculum is relevant to real-life practical skills with papers in Political Theory, International Relations and Public Administration. The semester examinations are usually difficult, with a 40% pass percentage. There is a wide range of minor subjects offered, which help students prepare themselves for industry jobs in the future.
Other: I chose this course to get a better understanding of geopolitical issues, along with the knowledge of economics. I like how my education in economics directly correlates to various aspects of international relations and helps me understand the political framework of a nation better. I would choose to add more on-field experience in the course to help students acquire better practical skills. There are various societies present on campus that allow students to give expression to their individual skills and interests besides academics. The crowd is diverse and talented, and the environment is disciplined. The college celebrates its annual fest, Xavotsav, in January, one of the biggest college fests in Kolkata.

BA (Hons.) in History - Batch of 2027
Offered by New Alipore College

My review of New Alipore College.
Placements: Our college doesn't give any placements. I study at New Alipore College, affiliated with Calcutta University. You have to work hard to get a good placement. I suggest that if you want placement, then go for the better options. That will help you. Especially in this competitive era, you have to work hard.
Infrastructure: New Alipore College in Kolkata provides a good infrastructure for its B.A course, and offers hostel facilities for female students. The college is affiliated with Calcutta University. The college provides well-maintained facilities that support the B.A. Curriculum. The campus has spacious classrooms, with some equipped with modern technology like smart screens and projectors. There are also well-equipped computer labs with advanced IT infrastructure.
Faculty: Curriculum focuses on imparting disciplinary knowledge, promoting critical thinking, and developing communication and digital literacy skills. Courses cover subjects. Examination system at New Alipore includes both internal assessment and end-semester examinations in accordance with the university guidelines.

B.A. in Psychology - Batch of 2028
Offered by Gokhale Memorial Girls' College
3.6

Good faculty members but not that great infrastructure.
Placements: Since it's mostly a science-based subject, there are not really any placements for this degree after graduation. However, Gokhale has provided a variety of internships since the 2nd year itself. College is really well known, especially for psychology degree.
Infrastructure: Under Calcutta University, it is one of the best colleges that provides a very compact and practical based course on psychology. Gokhale has one of the oldest psychology labs, which contains proper psychological instruments for experimentation. However, it does not provide any hostel facilities as such. But you can find a lot of affordable PGs and flats near the college. There's a proper canteen which contains a variety of food at a cheaper rate, as well as proper medical facilities. Our college also provides opportunities for indoor and outdoor games.
Faculty: One of the best things about Gokhale is definitely the faculty members. They are very qualified, knowledgeable, and helpful as well. Of course, you won't connect equally to all the teachers there, some might be your favourite, whereas others might not be that favourite but it's okay. I am sure this course will teach a lot of things, one of them being how to adjust to every situation in life. It is definitely curriculum-relevant. With psychology being such a fast-growing field in the world, this course does make the students industry-ready. Semester exams are a bit difficult, though.
Other: I opted for this course because when I chose this subject in class 11, I knew this was something I wanted to pursue. Psychology always intrigued me since the very beginning. The best thing about my course is that I can understand why someone is behaving the way they are and what the thinking pattern is behind that. However, when it comes to fests, if I am being honest, there aren't really very great opportunities for fests. But our seniors have always shown great interest, and now we participate in a lot of fests in other colleges (got some medals as well).

I am satisfied with everything at the college.
Placements: There are no placements for honours students. There is an availability of a summer internship program from different high-rated companies, which is an enjoyable and fun program. Every summer, we can also choose the company with which we need to complete our internship program.
Infrastructure: There are no facilities for a hostel. Food is average to very good. We have an auditorium, Wi-Fi, labs, library, etc. Everything is so clean and under CCTV surveillance. We have sports departments. Medical facilities are also excellent.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They really focus on students' intelligence and in-depth knowledge of every topic. The course curriculum is relevant, and it really makes students industry-ready. Basically, semester exams are difficult for those who do not study. 80% of students passed in my batch.
Other: I like English from class 7, and it was my dream to go for English honours, so I chose it. The best thing about this course is that we get to know the language background, and we get to read different types of poems and prose, which are interesting. My course is all good. Everything is good. I'm satisfied with everything.

Highly recommend for Education Major. Internship opportunities are catered to every student.
Placements: Students got placement opportunities in Infosys and other tech companies. By different seminars and workshops, Students build connections with more people and get guided by professionals. Students doing Education honors got the internship opportunities to work as a teacher in different schools. Other department students also get internship opportunities in their respective fields.
Infrastructure: There is free Wi-Fi in our college, ensuring smooth application of smart classroom features. It's free for use of students as well. Library has all the necessary reference books and journals for all the departments. And library staff is friendly and easy-going as well. Infrastructure is average, there are air-conditioners in some rooms. We get to participate in different types of sports activities throughout the year, especially during sports and cultural competitions which is held before the annual gift distribution day.
Faculty: All the teachers are either pursuing or already done PhDs in their respective subjects. They are highly knowledgeable in their expertise and deeply into research work, this is what makes learning more enthusiastic. Our college is affiliated by University of Calcutta so, all the curriculum, exams, papers setting are decided and managed by the University. Honors/Major courses have a bit tough syllabus and difficult exams, but it is totally understandable. Most students easily pass the exams.
Other: I chose the Education Major course because I am passionate about teaching, observing people and children, and want to serve in the field of education. This subject excites me so much. They also included the internship and research work/dissertation, making it more experience-centred and practical. If I have to give suggestions to improve something about my course, I'd say that publishing departmental journals would be an exciting thing to do, and we will get to learn a lot from it.

This college is good, but teachers should be more available.
Placements: I see many students from our faculty receiving great positions. Many of my friends also get internships and fellowships in famous companies like TCS, Wipro, Myntra, banks, Aditya Birla Group, and even translation and transcription jobs in companies overseas.
Infrastructure: There are 3 libraries in the college for the 3 separate colleges, but everyone can borrow books and study in libraries, so you don't have to worry about buying books. There are plenty of options there. You can also play on the ground, and classrooms are getting renovated, so it's going to get better, I hope.
Faculty: Teachers are pretty helpful and polite. They are well-qualified and knowledgeable. The semester exams are difficult yet easy at the same time. However, the pass percentage in our department is high. The projects are fun to do, and you learn a lot from them.
Other: The best thing about this course is that you learn a lot of things. If you love to read, then it's a win because the syllabus includes many interesting texts. You also learn about the human psyche and the lives and personalities of poets, which is one of the reasons I chose this course. It also enriches your vocabulary.
