Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy, or SASTRA Deemed to be University is one of the popular deemed-to-be universities in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It is a private university. SASTRA University was established in 1984 as Shanmugha College of Engineering and conferred the deemed-to-be university status on April 26, 2001. SASTRA Deemed-to-be University offers undergraduate, integrated first degree, postgraduate and doctoral programmes across multiple fields such as Engineering, Science, Law, Commerce, Management and Fine Arts. B.Tech, B.Com M.Tech (5-Year Integrated), M.Tech and M.Sc. Are the popular courses offered by Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy. The undergraduate engineering courses (B.Tech) offered by the SASTRA Deemed to be University are of four years (eight semesters). The university also offers Ph.D. programmes across various streams.

SASTRA offers merit-based scholarships to meritorious and skilled students under the following categories:

• It awards merit scholarships to the students who fall in the top 3 to 10% of high scorers in their semester examinations. The students are offered one-fifth of the semester fee
• The top 3% scorers at the university are offered two-fifth of the semester fee
