BAMS Course is an undergraduate degree programme which makes students learn all aspects of Ayurveda and Ayurvedic medicine. Candidates who have interest in Ayurvedic medicine can do courses in BAMS offered by different institutes. The course duration of BAMS or Bachelor of Ayurvedic, Medicine and Surgery is 5.5 years. BAMS is equivalent to an MBBS degree in medicine.
Being an alternative method for treatment of many diseases, Ayurveda has gained prominence especially in urban areas where people are prone to many lifestyle diseases. The ayurvedic line of treatment is based on natural properties of herbs. After finishing courses in BAMS, candidates can become Ayurvedic doctor at hospitals or start their own Ayurvedic clinic. They can also go for higher studies and do MD and Ph.D courses in Ayurveda. Candidates get admission in BAMS course on the basis of entrance exam. The basic eligibility for admission in course in BAMS is 12th pass with science subjects.

Admission Process for BAMS Course
Candidates get admission on the basis of the score in the entrance test. Majority of institutes accept NEET score for admission to BAMS course. Candidates have to apply online for the NEET exam which is held annually in pen and paper mode. Candidates who score the minimum cut off are asked to participate in the counselling to get admission in different medical courses including BAMS. Apart from NEET, some state level entrance exams are also conducted by respective universities for admission to BAMS courses. These exams are KEAM, OJEE, and IPU CET. KEAM score is valid in Kerala while OJEE is valid in Odisha.
