B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2028
Offered by Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri
4.6

BIT Sindri: Good faculty, labs, placements; old infrastructure; proactive students thrive here.
Placements: Around 90% of Civil students secure campus placements annually. The highest package is up to 13 LPA, with recruiters like JSW, Vedanta, Aditya Birla, and Unacademy. The average package is approximately 6.5 LPA for Civil Engineering. Over 100 internship offers to Civil students in 2024. Comparable to other core branches.
Infrastructure: The campus has decent labs, especially in Civil Engineering. Surveying, Concrete, Soil Mechanics, and Environment labs are well-equipped but sometimes face maintenance delays. The Central Library offers good resources, including textbooks and past papers. Hostels are basic, mostly shared rooms, moderately clean, and old in infrastructure, though some renovations have occurred. Mess food is average with limited variety; canteens provide basic meals. Medical facilities include a dispensary with a doctor; serious cases require Dhanbad hospital. Sports grounds for cricket, football, and athletics are available, with some indoor games. Annual sports meets and cultural fests are active and well-attended.
Faculty: Teachers are generally approachable and supportive, with most holding M.Tech or Ph.D. degrees. Teaching quality ranges from average to excellent, though methods are mostly traditional. The curriculum covers core civil engineering areas but feels slightly outdated; students often self-learn modern tools like AutoCAD and STAAD Pro. Practical exposure is limited, so internships and certification are recommended for skill development. Semester exams are moderately difficult and largely theory-based, with an 85-90% pass rate. Internal assessment and attendance significantly impact final grades. Overall, the programme builds strong fundamentals but requires extra effort to achieve full industry readiness.
Other: I chose Civil Engineering because of my interest in infrastructure and design. BIT Sindri offers experienced faculty, strong core placements (JSW, Vedanta, Aditya Birla), and affordable fees. Labs for structures, soil mechanics, and concrete technology provide practical exposure, along with software training in AutoCAD and STAAD Pro. Active student societies like the Civil Engineering Society and ISTE enrich learning. The popular annual fest SRIJAN features technical and cultural events. The campus is peaceful and green, mainly with students from Jharkhand and Bihar. Connectivity to Dhanbad (28 km) is good. Many scholarships, including E-Kalyan, support deserving students financially.

If you can't get any of the IIT and NIT also your finance not so good.
Placements: BIT Sindri has good placement records, particularly for core branches like electrical, mechanical, and metallurgy. While the placement rate varies by branch, with some branches like CSE and IT. Bit Sindri's placement is good for the core branch.
Infrastructure: BIT Sindri's infrastructure has mixed reviews. The college has a large, lush green campus, and separate buildings for its 10 departments. The infrastructure of BIT Sindri is good to moderate but labs are very old, so overall infrastructure is good.
Faculty: BIT Sindri faculty reviews are positive, with students highlighting their knowledge and helpfulness. Faculty is also well-experienced in teaching and also guides overall development in terms of interest like sports and other activities.
Other: The best college according to rank and fee in Jharkhand.

Good faculty members, placements, and infrastructure.
Placements: A maximum of 90% of students are getting placed. The highest package is 50 LPA, the average is 14 to 17 LPA, and the lowest is, I think, 4 to 7 LPA. Top companies like Tata Steel, JSW Steel, Vedanta, L&T, Aditya Birla Group, and Adani come for placement. Around 40-50% of students are securing opportunities in various companies for internships like Tata Steel, Mahindra, Tata Motors, and many more.
Infrastructure: All facilities are available like labs, classrooms, and library, and Wi-Fi is in the library. Food in the mess and canteen are good with varieties of menu available, and medical facilities are also there. Sports and games are also prioritized, with a sports club where sports and games are conducted.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and classes are taken regularly. They are well-educated and knowledgeable. The course curriculum is relevant and makes students ready for companies. Semester exams are a little bit tough because students have to study well for their best future.

The college has an average placement record and good infrastructure for the B.Tech students.
Placements: The placement rate generally can be considered to be good. It is about 70-90 % in my course. The highest package offered has been around 13 LPA, with the average package around 6.5 LPA. Top recruiting companies include Tata, JSW Steel, L&T, Vedanta, and Aditya Birla.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure here is good enough. The classroom and library facilities are good, but you are not provided with Wi-Fi facilities. If I talk about the hostel, it is good for the students, but the mess food is not so good enough. The canteen is really good.
Faculty: The teachers are well-educated and qualified. Their teaching quality is really good. The course curriculum is vast and old, I don't think it will make students industry-ready, but the curriculum is good. The semester exams are generally moderate, with a pass percentage generally above 85%.

I am satisfied with the faculty and all staff members. Placement varies here.
Placements: In B.Tech, 75% of students get placed. Although it varies from branch to branch. In some branches, it is 100%. In the mechanical engineering branch, it is 100%. If students get admission in the mechanical engineering branch, then it would be best because placements in mechanical engineering are very good.
Infrastructure: Food is normal and the same as the other colleges. The mess staff members are good. They all are very helpful. If our health is not good, then they also help us. At night or if we go late, then they keep our food.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and supportive. Semester exams are moderate, not that difficult, and help us in every aspect. Some teachers also provide values of life and what to do in different situations. They will provide us with the necessary important topics of exams, so it is very easy for us to pass exams. They try to make us understand every topic more than once. Practice questions are also provided by teachers, which help us to score good results in the exam.
Other: Events are organised, but very few. It conducts extracurricular activities like football, cricket, and badminton. There are also inter-branch competitions.

You can get admission in BIT Sindri, if you have performed well in JEE Mains entrance examination. As admission is done via JEE Mains score and ranks. Also, you need to pass your intermediate board exam also to be eligible. Best of luck.

Almost, every institute offers admission for lateral entry same as Birsa Institute of Technology do. BIT conducts separate exam for that and the number of seats through lateral entry in all branches are 10% of the normal seats.
