IIT Jammu admission 2026 is entrance-based. The institute accepts JEE Advanced scores for admission to its flagship programme i.e. BTech. Students are required to qualify JEE Main exam before appearing for JEE Advanced. Large number of applications and limited seats makes admission competitive for BTech programme. IIT Jammu also offers BS, MTech, MSc and PhD courses. While admission to MTech is subject to GATE, admission to MSc is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates. - IIT Jammu offers a dual degree UG course in collaboration with IIM Jammu for students to get both a BTech degree from IIT Jammu and MBA in Operational & Supply Chain Management from IIM Mumbai within five years.
- IIT Jammu UG course includes 20% seats (category-wise). Students need to opt MBA ate the end of third year of BTech. The transition to IIM Jammu MBA is direct without CAT subject to having at least 7.0 CGPA in BTech. Students not opting for MBA will get a BTech degree on completion of IIT Jammu academic requirements.
- Students are shortlisted for BS based on JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. However, students have to apply on the institute's website. The seats are offered via institute-level admission process skipping JoSAA Counselling.

IIT Jammu admission is a multi-step process. Starting with the application, students need to go through the course-specific entrance exam followed by other selection rounds (if applicable). After the selection rounds are over, students are required to go through the exam-specific counselling process for final seat allotment. Check below the steps to get a seat in IIT Jammu:
Step 1: IIT Jammu Application Process 2026
Students seeking admission in IIT Jammu must submit the online application form for course-specific entrance exam or college depending on the course they wish to get into.
- BTech and BS aspirants must fill out the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). Aspirants also need to fill out the form on the official website of IIT Jammu for BS. Aspirants need to pay INR 3,000 for BS (INR 1,500 for SC/ ST/ PwD).

Step 2: Selection
Aspirants need to have JEE Advanced scores for BS/ BTech and GATE scores for MTech. Admission to MSc programme is based on IIT JAM scores of the candidates. The selection for PhD is based on CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR scores. Aspirants may also have to appear for written test/ interview for MTech.
Step 3: Cutoff
Candidates must score equal or above IIT Jammu cutoff in the accepted entrance exam for admission. After the selection rounds are completed, candidates need to go through the course-wise counselling process for final seat allotment.
Step 4: Counselling & Seat Allotment
BTech applicants are allotted seat via JoSAA Counselling. MTech aspirants have to participate in COAP Counselling for admission. No, students seeking admission to IIT Jammu for MTech are required to have a valid score in the GATE exam. Yes, while applying for the MTech programme at IIT Jammu, a student has to first register compulsorily on COAP portal. It is also mandatory for all candidates with valid GATE score to register at COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal) and use the COAP registration number while filling the application form of IIT Jammu. The application fee for M.Tech registration at IIT Jammu portal is INR 200 for SC/ ST/ PwD category candidates and INR 300 for other category candidates.
