NIRF 2025 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2025 rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar ranks 56 under the 'Overall' category, 47 under the 'Research Institutions' category, and 32 under the 'Engineering' category.
The GATE COAP 2026 registration link is active for admission to the ME/MTech programmes. The GATE COAP 2026 round 1 window to view offers and make a decision will be opened on May 11, 2026 (10 AM).
A few more updates are given below:
- The JEE Advanced 2026 application form will be available from Apr 23, 2026, to May 2, 2026, for admission to the BE/BTech course. Also, the JEE Advanced exam 2026 will be conducted on May 17, 2026.
- The JEE Main 2026 registration for session 2 has closed for IIT Ropar admission to BTech, BArch and BPlan courses. The session 2 exams will be conducted from Apr 2 to Apr 9, 2026.
- The IIT JAM 2026 counselling registration is open for admission to the MSc course, with the last date being set on Apr 15, 2026. Also, the first admission list will be declared tentatively on May 25, 2026.

Here, it's a good campus life with strong academics.
Placements: In B.Tech CSE, around 85% are placed, with the highest package of approximately Rs 66 LPA, average of Rs 22 LPA and the lowest Rs. 3.5 LPA. Top recruiters are Google and DE. Shaw, Pattern, Arista, Accenture, Oracle, Sprinklr, Texas Instruments, Microsoft, etc. Top roles are SDE roles and Data Analyst.
Infrastructure: All departments have labs, classes, and seminar halls, with high-speed Wi-Fi. Along with this, there is a well-equipped central library and Auditorium. The hostel offers clean rooms, 24/7 water, electricity, and Wi-Fi. There are 3 messes in the institute, which offer decent food. Along with this, there is medical support and sports facilities like a gym, cricket, football, basketball, etc.
Faculty: Faculty members are very supportive, qualified, and teach well. Curriculum taught here is industry-relevant with practical labs and projects. Exams are moderate to hard with fair evaluation. For most of the courses, you should score 30% to pass, so most students pass comfortably.
Other: My batch and I chose this course for tech interest and career scope. The best parts of this are coding labs, group projects, placements, and internships. Campus has good fests, active clubs, helpful seniors and professors, scholarships and strong connectivity.

Campus life and internships at IIT Ropar
Placements: Since I am in the 3rd year of my degree, I am sharing about the internships at IIT Ropar, in my batch of 70 students, about 5 are selected for software development roles in companies like Microsoft, Arista Networks, and Razorpay. Almost 35 students got internships in mechanical core companies like TATA Steel, Trident, DRDO, etc. Two students got internships in product management roles at OLA, and one got an internship at JPMCt.
Infrastructure: The college provides Wi-Fi facilities throughout the 500 acres of campus area and also LAN facilities in the hostel rooms. The common rooms in all the hostels provide facilities like gym, television, and sports equipment. Some hostels also have a snooker table in the common area. The library is big and contains books on almost every subject, from novels to course books and research papers. Food available in the canteen is better than what is available at the mess; however, after visiting 3 other IITs, I can assure that our mess food is much better.
Faculty: The faculty at IIT Ropar is highly qualified, and most of them have pursued their PhDs from abroad. 75% attendance is mandatory in almost every course, and the teachers are mostly good except for a few exceptions. There are regular class committee meetings where students can give their feedback to all the professors throughout the duration of the course. The course curriculum is relevant and is regularly updated, which really helped me during my internship drive. The semester exams are not very tough but also not very easy; passing them is really easy with around 30% marks.

IIT Ropar College Review.
Placements: The placements had been decent. A lot of students were really keen on applying to certain companies. The reason the pay was not that great was that there seems to be a lack of growth opportunities in the industry. Its frustrating, for sure. On the bright side, our placement cell was pretty proactive. They had a bunch of options for us to consider when applying to different companies.
Infrastructure: The hostel and the mess were decent. We had Wi-Fi in the classrooms, and you can easily access the LAN from your room in the hostel. Everything you need was right on campus. The classrooms were spacious and had projectors, which was nice. A big stadium for cricket and football, not to mention an indoor stadium for badminton.
Faculty: Faculty members were good, but you really have to show up to class regularly to succeed. Most students pass, but those who barely attend do not. The curriculum could use a better structure, so students often have to figure things out on their own to be ready for the industry. The semester exams were just right in terms of difficulty, so if you want to pass, you definitely need to prepare.

IIT Ropar College Review.
Placements: Every student heads straight for placements. Some actually land foreign Ph.D. positions, which is pretty impressive. Others might choose to stick around in academia. Most students placements were on campus or off. There were some academic internships out there from companies like Doubtnut and Toppr, which could be a great opportunity. The coaching industry was always on the lookout for students from the M.Sc. Chemistry branch, especially for NEET JEE, and JAM prep. There were plenty of paths to explore.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was practical, with solid facilities for both sports and academics. You can always plug into a LAN port for unlimited public Ethernet. The campus was buzzing with organized events, and the various clubs really enhance diversity and opportunities for students.
Faculty: Teachers were definitely qualified and offered plenty of assistance. Their teaching methods were top notch, and the training programme was relevant, really gearing students up for the industry. Semester exams sit at a medium difficulty level, but the pass percentage often reflects the class average, which was around 50%.

Best infrastructure among the IITs with quite good placement ratio and also a good campus life.
Placements: More than 80% of students were placed last year. The highest package is around 40 LPA. The average package is around 16 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Tata Steel, JSW Paints, JP Morgan, etc. Around 45% of students got internships at Tata Steel and JP Morgan in the role of banking and marketing.
Infrastructure: The metallurgical and materials engineering department is in Hargobind Khurana block (SAB). We have hi-tech labs with equipment like SEM, TEM, XRD, other microscopes, and other devices. We have full air conditioning and Wi-Fi network classrooms. We have 4 hostels for boys and 2 hostels for girls. We have a sports complex which has cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, tennis, basketball grounds, and gym also.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and kind. They are easily available on week days from 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM in their office. They are qualified from very respected universities like IIT, IISC, MIT, and others. The teaching quality is moderate. The course curriculum is moderately relevant. It makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams are quite tough.

Placements: Engineering physics is a great branch that offers a good amount of placement opportunities for students at IIT Ropar. Multiple companies come here for campus placement like Google, Microsoft, IBM, and many more which helps students to get placed easily and be satisfied.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is great, design is inspired by foreign colleges like MIT. The course infrastructure is not that great students deal with multiple issue during their courses and it is difficult to cope up with your batchmates still it is still doable.
Faculty: Exams can be beneficial. If you study well, you can easily achieve great marks. Faculty members are also excellent, making it easier for students to adjust to college life. It primarily depends on how well the student can adapt to the college environment. Wishing everyone the best!
