- Established with the idea to cater to the post-war industrial development in India. In 1950, the first Indian Institute of Technology was established in May 1950, Kharagpur.
- From 1959-1960, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras was established.
- Approved by the cabinet and announced by the Minister of Human Resource Development, establishment of 8 more IITs was approved on March 28, 2008.
- In 2008 IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Jodhpur (earlier called IIT Rajasthan), IIT Patna and IIT Ropar was established. In 2009, IIT Mandi and IIT Indore was established.

IIT Jodhpur Admission Process and Important Dates 2025
IIT Jodhpur is an entrance test based institution. The IIT Jodhpur admissions are done on online basis. The IIT Jodhpur application form should be completed by the candidates prior to the due date. The JEE Main, JEE Advanced, GATE, CAT, and IIT JAM are the IIT Jodhpur entrance exams.
IIT Jodhpur uses the JEE Advanced scores to accept their BTech programme, and then the JoSAA counselling. Based on the Round 1 seat allotment, the BTech cutoff scores ranged between 2798 and, 15166 for the General AII India category students. From R2 to R5, the closing rank for BTech CSE remained consistent at 1348. For R1 it was 1276 and for R6 it was 1363. Yes, the institute offers scholarships to meritorious students. Merit cum means scholarships are offered in each academic year to all the categories of students. To avail of the scholarship, an applicant must satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria. The application form for a scholarship can be collected from the Office of Students, Administration Building.
Students enrolled in the MSc programmes are not provided with any assistantship or scholarship from within the Institute. But, candidates enrolled in the MSc programmes can pursue external funding agencies providing assistantships or scholarships. Some of the scholarships for which candidates can apply are INSPIRE scholarship and Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana. These scholarships are offered by the government.
Candidates with a BE, BTech, BS, or BDes degree and a GATE or GPAT qualification are eligible for financial aid worth INR 12,400 per month. Even if they do not pass the GATE exam, IIT BTech graduates with a CGPA of 8 or higher are eligible for assistantships. Sponsored category students cannot get an IITJ assistantship, nevertheless. Candidates seeking admission to the BSc at IIT Jodhpur must meet the minimum IIT Jodhpur BSc eligibility criteria. Candidates who have passed the Class 12 examination in relevant stream from a recognised board can get admission to the BSc programme offered at IIT Jodhpur.

To be eligible to apply for MBA admission at IIT Jodhpur, candidates must pass Class 12 and graduation in the respective subjects. Candidates who secured minimum 60% aggregate or 6.00 CGPA in their graduation are eligible to apply for MBA. However, there is a five percent relaxation is given to SC/ST/PwD candidates.
