IIT Roorkee Director AK Chaturvedi honours Rajiv Ranjan Mishra.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee honoured Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, former Director General of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), with HRED River Ganga Rejuvenation Award 2021. The annual research award recognises and felicitates those with exceptional contribution towards Ganga rejuvenation work of scientific, social, environmental, legal and financial nature. 

Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, spearheaded Namami Gange programme since 2018 till recently. He has contributed to Public Private Partnership (PPP) in waste water management through hybrid annuity mode and also in affordable housing. He also contributed to conservation of rivers beyond Ganga basin through National River Conservation Directorate (NRCD).  

Awardee’s contribution towards Ganga rejuvenation pathbreaking: IITR Director 

The award was presented by IIT Roorkee Director AK Chaturvedi. He said, “Rajiv Ranjan Mishra’s contributions towards Ganga rejuvenation are pathbreaking, manifold and sustained over a very long period of time. They are marked by his passion, personal attention, scientific approach and most importantly ability to take along people at the grassroots level as well as the political leadership. He has shaped government policy for Ganga rejuvenation in a manner that the impact is visible on the ground.”

Meanwhile, Mishra said, “Ultimate success and sustainability can be ensured with ownership of the river and its ecosystem by the people. The scope of the mission was expanded to go beyond cleaning to holistic rejuvenation and to include improving flow and ecology with environmental flow, afforestation, tributaries clean-up, nurturing of wetlands, natural springs, redevelopment of river fronts, sustainable agriculture and other aspects of basin management. Also, Ganga River Basin Management Plan by consortium of IITs provided the comprehensive long-term vision, thus, helping lay the foundation for Namami Gange Mission.”

The cutoff trend for B.Tech at IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute of Technology has been decreasing in the recent years. In 2022, the closing rank for B.Tech. under general category for all India quota was 413. In 2023, it decreased to 412. No, you cannot apply for B.Des programme at IIT Roorkee even if you have cleared the UCEED Entrance Exam because Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in 10+2. But you can apply for B.Des programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore.

IIT Roorkee doesn't offer PhD in Design course through CEED. It only offers a MDes in Industrial Design. Admission to the M.Des programme will be based on CEED 2026 merit rank. The candidate will have to apply directly to the participating college once results are declared.
