UGC NET Result Preparation Criteria & Minimum Qualifying Marks
The NTA prepares the NET result by following the step-by-step procedure mentioned below:
Step 1: The number of candidates to be qualified for the exam should be equal to six per cent of the candidates appearing in both the papers of the UGC NET exam
Step 2: Total slots are allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of the Government of India
Step 3: In order to be considered for ‘JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor’ or ‘eligibility for Assistant Professor only’, candidates must appear for both paper-I and -II and score the minimum qualifying marks as mentioned below.
Categories |
Aggregate Minimum Qualifying Marks in Both Papers (in Percentage) |
---|---|
General |
40 |
Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Other Backward Class (OBC) (non-creamy layer)/Persons with Disability (Pwd)/Transgender |
35 |
Step 4: The number of candidates to be declared qualified in any subject for a particular category is derived using the below-mentioned formula.
As per the aforementioned example, the aggregate percentage of the two papers corresponding to the number of slots arrived at, determines the UGC NET cutoff for the eligibility of Assistant Professor in Economics for SC category. The same formula is applied to determine the subject-wise qualifying cutoff for all categories.
Step 5: Candidates who had applied for JRF and the eligibility of Assistant Professor out of the total number of qualifying candidates (derived as per step 4) are considered for JRF.
Step 6: Total slots available for awarding JRF are allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of the Government of India. The subject- and category-wise allocation of JRF slots is one as per the formula mentioned below:
The aggregate percentage of the scores of two papers corresponding to the number of JRF slots arrived at, determines the qualifying cut-off for JRF in Economics for ST category. The same criterion is used for awarding JRF slots for all subjects and categories.

After BA, you need to pursue an MA in Urdu (or a related subject).
Once you complete or are in the final year of your MA, you can apply for UGC NET in Urdu.
In short:
BA alone cannot fulfill the eligibility for UGC NET.
The eligibility for UGC NET is MA in Urdu (or related field) with 55%+ marks
