I was always a regular student in school and interested in subjects like Business Studies and Accountancy. So I decided to take Commerce stream in school. The selection was through counselling, so I didn’t choose my school. My marks were good enough so I got admission in the first counselling round in a nearby school which was Govt Model Sr Sec School, Sector-47, Chandigarh.
Panjab University is one of the renowned universities in the world. It was my dream to take admission in this university and luckily, my dream came true. I wanted to pursue BCom and become a CA. But after seeing BCom books, I was afraid that if I took admission in BCom and was unable to clear my exams, my whole year would be a suffering, so I decided to keep a second option side by side. One day, my father was reading the newspaper and he showed me a headline which was about admissions open in Hotel and Tourism Management. I found it very unique and of my interest too. Like this, my father helped me in finding my second option. After seeing this news, I became partially interested in getting admission in this field.
It required cracking an entrance test. I was very fond of learning new things and general knowledge from the beginning which helped a lot in cracking the entrance test. Here, I want to give you an advice i.e. always try to learn new things and never wait for others to educate you. If you think that you don’t know something, then work on it yourself and after sometime, you will see a huge change in your knowledge. So, I waited for the result and secured 115rank, which wasn’t that bad. Then, the counselling round took place and I got admission in the first round.
My college life
A college is the place where you choose your career and your job, so make the most out of your college by attending all the classes, asking questions and clearing all your doubts. Never hesitate to take part in day to day activities and competitions.
My college life was very pleasant. I was very focused about my studies and I hardly missed any class. Right now, I am in my last year of graduation and it is the month of June, so I have decided to utilize these holidays, and hence, I have applied for a training session in ground staff at the airport. After that I will go for a job. The entire faculty team was very cooperative in the fact that when I needed extra holidays they allowed me the same without asking much questions. They just want us to learn new things that help us in our career.
My tips for career selection is that do choose a stream of your interest from the beginning. Do not choose a wrong stream just because your friend is there or your parents are recommending you that stream. And, do not give up if you fail once, because remember, failure is the key to success. Never hurt your parents; keep them at number one in your priority list. Give your 100% to whatever you do. These are the major tips that will definitely help you succeed in your life.
Life is very short. Take small positive challenges in your life to gain new skills, improve your communication, and groom your personality. By completing these small challenges you will be able to become better day by day. Keep a positive attitude towards life and one thing that is very important according to me is, keep dreaming.

In case of vacant seats, they are not filled by any additional rounds. Instead they are shifted to affiliated college in any of the course. The shifting of seats is decided by committee assigned by the Dean Postgraduate Studies.
