AMU Aligarh PhD Admissions 2024-25

AMU Aligarh PhD Admissions 2024-25 - Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) offers full-time and part-time Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in different disciplines in the faculties of the University as notified by the University from time to time. The applications for the 2024-25 intake were open from November 11, 2024, to December 1, 2024. Admission in PhD in AMU is entrance-based. The admission tests were conducted from January 27 to February 2, 2024 for the various subjects for PhD is offered. Interested candidates have to appear for the AMU Admission Test to get admission to these programmes. PhD is offered in streams such as Science, Arts, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Management and many more. AMU PhD Admission - Eligibility Criteria

In order to pursue a full-time PhD from AMU, candidates must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent, recognized by a university in the relevant subject to their proposed field of research with a minimum of 55% aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in 7 point scale of UGC (or an equivalent overall grade if grading system is followed).

A 1-year/ 2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed.
OR
M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.
OR
A 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme (with research) with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

In the case of part-time PhD, candidates must qualify the same eligibility criteria as that of full-time, and should fall among the following categories:

  • Candidate has been in service in a government/public sector undertaking/R&D for at least two years and is sanctioned study leave for one year
  • Candidate is an Assistant Professor (Contractual) and Guest Teacher of this university
  • Candidate is a Nursing Tutor or Permanent School Teacher of this university with five years of regular service
  • Admission to MPhil & PhD will be done through the AMU Admission Test, followed by an interview
  • Candidates who have already qualified for CSIR NET, UGC NET or any other national-level entrance test such as NET JRF will be considered for admission without appearing in the AMU Admission Written Test. However, candidates will have the option of appearing in the written test to increase their admission chances, in which case, the higher marks obtained in the qualifying test will be considered.

AMU PhD: Relaxation of Marks

A relaxation of 5% of marks, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, in the qualifying examination may be allowed for Persons with Disabilities (having more than 40% disability).

Aligarh Muslim University PhD: Criteria for Admission

  • The selection process for the PhD programme will be conducted through an admission test that includes two stages: (a) a written examination and (b) a presentation-cum-interview for candidates who qualify in the written test.

     

  • Applicants who have qualified for fellowships or scholarships through UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR NET, GATE, CEED, or other similar national-level exams with scores equal to or above the General Category qualifying marks (valid at the time of admission) are exempted from the written test. However, they must attend the presentation-cum-interview in person to be considered for selection.

     

  • Foreign nationals are also exempted from the written test but must participate in the presentation-cum-interview either in person or through video conferencing to be eligible for selection.

AMU Aligarh PhD Course Duration

Candidates can find the course duration of both full-time and part-time PhD programmes in the table mentioned below:

A minimum of three years from the date of admission and a maximum of five years, extendable by a maximum of one year

A minimum of three and a half years from the date of admission, and a maximum of seven years, extendable by a maximum of one year

Note: Women scholars and candidates with disability (more than 40%) can be allowed a relaxation of two years to pursue a PhD. Women scholars may be offered Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave during the entire duration of PhD for up to 240 days.

  • Visit the official website of AMU at www.amucontrollerexams.com.
  • Login using your Email and password. Your Dashboard will be available to you for filling out the form.
  • Only a Single Registration is sufficient for applying to multiple courses by a candidate.
  • Please note every candidate will Register separately and will get his/her username and password to access his/her Dashboard for filling as well as tracking the form(s).
  • In case you have lost/forgot your password, use the Forgot Password link to get it. It will be sent to you on your registered email.
  • Fill out your Profile carefully and Review it properly before Saving it as you will not be able to Edit/Update it afterwards.

AMU PhD Application Form Pre-Requisites

Before filling out the application form you must have the following ready.

  • Scanned copy of coloured Photo with white background, Signature, and Thumb Impression (Left Hand Thumb Impression for every candidate) of the Candidate in JPG format only. The file size of each should be less than 200KB.
  • Email address & Mobile number.
  • Online Banking details/Debit Card/Credit Card.
  • Details of qualifying examination.

Note:

  • Candidates eligible for admission to PhD programme in more than one discipline of the University can apply for the same but such a candidate must fill out a separate application form for each discipline. However, candidates can apply only in a maximum of two specialisations within the same discipline
  • All candidates must submit the duly filled Application Form in the office of the Controller of Examinations (CoE) on or before the last date set by the University.
