Type of Questions in CUET UG: The National Testing Agency conducts Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG for admission to more than 250 universities across India. Candidates preparing for CUET UG must know pattern and syllabus for the CUET subjects they have opted for. As per the CUET UG 2026 exam pattern, the question paper will include objective questions . The CUET question paper will include 50 questions in each subject. The number of questions and duration will be same across all subjects of CUET as per the revised exam pattern.

CUET UG scores are used for admission to UG courses offered by participating universities. CUET UG 2026 will be scheduled from May 11 to May 31, 2026 in CBT mode. Read this article by Shiksha to know what types of questions are asked in CUET 2026?

CUET UG Exam Structure

As per the revised CUET UG exam pattern, the exam is divided into three sections- Language, Domain subjects and General Test. The exam duration for CUET UG is 60 minutes for each subject. Refer to table below to know the updated CUET exam pattern:

CUET Marking Scheme

As per the CUET marking scheme:

  • For every correct answer candidate will get five marks
  • For every wrong answer, one mark will be reduced

Q:   How many questions are there in the language section of CUET UG?
A: 

CUET UG Language section will include 50 questions. Candidates must attempt all questions. There will be no optional questions.

The language section will check candidate's reading comprehension based on different types of passages. This section will also include questions from grammar. To prepare for the CUET UG language section, candidates must solve previous year question papers and mock tests to become familiar with the type of questions asked in the exam. 

Q:   Is it compulsory to attempt all the sections of the CUET question paper?
A: 

CUET UG question paper for each subject will consist of 50 questions. Candidates will be required to attempt all questions and no optional questions will be provided. In CUET UG 2026 there are 37 subjects- 13 languages, 23 domain subjects and general tests. While filling the CUET application form, candidates can select upto five CUET subjects aligning with the subjects studied in class 12th and course requirement.

Candidates must attempt all the questions of the subjects selected. However, candidates must keep in mind the negative marking and select the options carefully.

As per the CUET UG 2026 exam pattern -
The question paper will include 50 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The CUET UG 2026 exam will be conducted for 13 languages, 23 domain subjects, and general test. Each subject will consist of 50 MCQs and there will no optional questions. All questions are mandatory to attempt. For every wrong answer negative marking of one mark will be attracted.

Type of Questions Asked in CUET UG: Language

The CUET UG language section includes multiple-choice questions. This section purely focuses on Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Verbal Ability and Grammar. The question paper will have 50 MCQs.Some of the important topics covered in CUET language are:

  • Error spotting

Q:   What type of questions are asked in the CUET exam?
A: 

The CUET questions are objective in nature and carries four options also known as MCQs. Candidates will have to choose the correct answer option and click on it with the help of mouse. Since CUET UG 2026 exam will be conducted in a CBT mode, test-takers will be able to mark only one answer option. In case it is the correct option, students will get +5 marks and in case of wrong answer, negative marking scheme will be applied. Hence, candidates must ensure the accuracy of the answer before selecting the answer.

Common University Entrance Test (CUET) sample papers are released by the conducting body, National Testing Agency (NTA). To download the CUET question papers follow the steps below:

  2. Select CUET subject to download the question paper for
  3. Click on the tab download
  4. Create the login details for new registrations
  5. Link to download the CUET question paper will be sent on the registered email ID
  6. Click on the link provided and save the PDF.
Q:   Is it important to select CUET subjects studied in class 12th?
A: 

Yes, it is important for students to align the CUET UG subjects with the subjects studied in class 12th. Top central universities like Delhi University, does not accept CUET subject scores which have not been studied by student in class 12th. While selecting CUET subjects candidates must make sure that CUET subjects must closely or completely align with the subjects studied in class 12th. Failing which, candidate will be disqualified for admission despite a good score.

No, the CUET exam is not compulsory for BSc at JSPM University. While the university accepts CUET for admissions in BSc but students can get admission based on their marks in Class 12. The university also accepts AIFSET exam score for BSc forensic science.

Yes, the top 2 BBA colleges in Indore, PIMR and IPS Academy, do not require CUET or any other entrance exam for admissions. Class 12 marks between 45 to 55% are required only.

Nanavati Hospital does not mention whether it accepts the scores of CUET-UG for BSc admissions. Generally, candidates are required to appear for the institute's own entrance exam in order to apply for BSc admissions.

CUET UG 2026 English exam will be scheduled between May 11 and May 31, 2026. The exam will be held for a duration of 60 minutes. The CUET English 2026 slot timings will be mentioned on the CUET intimation slip and admit card. Candidates will be alloted different slots for CUET UG English 2206 exam.

CUET UG exam centre 2026 preference could be selected while filling the CUET application form. Candidates could select the preferred exam cities based on their present and permanent address. Once the CUET exam centre is alloted, candidates cannot request for change in exam city or centre.

To appear for CUET UG exam, candidates can appear for maximum five CUET subjects. NTA conducts the CUET exam for each selected subject at different slots. Yes, the syllabus is different for every for domain subject or language chosen.

No, candidates cannot appear for CUET UG 2026 exam if they have not filled the CUET application form. NTA closed the CUET registrations 2026 on February 26, 2026. Candidates who are willing to appear for CUET UG exam must now stay updated with CUET 2027 schedule and notification.
