AKTU was established on 26 July 2000 as the Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) through the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
To ensure proper management & administrative ease, the university was divided into Gautam Buddh Technical University (GBTU) & Mahamaya Technical University (MTU), from 1 May 2010.
In 2013, as the new government came into power, UPTU University, Lucknow was merged as a single university combining the two on 5 January 2013.
In 2015, UPTU Lucknow was renamed Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).
Currently, AKTU is in its newly inaugurated campus in Jankipuram, Lucknow. Additionally, AKTU Lucknow remains one of the largest technical universities with more than 700 affiliated colleges.

Q: What is the fees of BTech in AKTU?

The fee structure for BTech at AKTU can differ between government and self-financed colleges affiliated with AKTU. Government colleges typically have lower tuition fees as we compar that to self-financed institutions.

AKTU will not admit students who do not a valid CUET score. NTA usually releases CUET result in July. CUET UG Counselling is held and conducted separately by the participating institutes. CUET UG Counselling is usually held between Jul and Aug.

AKTU Admission Process and Important Dates 2026

AKTU admission 2026 are currently open. Admission to various courses at the UG, PG, and doctorate levels are granted either based on merit in previous qualifying degrees or national-level entrance exams such as CUET, NATA, JEE Main, etc. The mode of application is online. For admission to its BTech programme, APJ Abdul Kalam University Lucknow accepts the JEE Main scores.
