CUET UG 2025: Students Can Choose Subjects Beyond Class 12 Stream; Exam Moves to CBT-Only Format with Standardised 60-Minute Papers and Reduced Subject Options. Check Key Changes in the Exam format...

The Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) is set to undergo notable changes in its 2025 edition. Aimed at enhancing accessibility and efficiency, the revamped format introduces flexibility and operational improvements for students aspiring to secure admissions in central, state, and private universities, including Delhi University, BHU, and AMU.

CUET Exam: Return to Computer-Based Testing

From 2025, CUET UG will be conducted exclusively in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, marking a departure from the hybrid model used in 2024. The shift is expected to streamline the examination process, offering increased reliability and security.

Streamlined Subject Choices

The number of subjects has been reduced from 63 to 37. Admissions for the discontinued subjects will be based on General Aptitude Test (GAT) scores. Students can now select up to five subjects, compared to six in previous editions. Additionally, interdisciplinary flexibility has been introduced, allowing candidates to opt for subjects they did not study in Class 12.

Standardised Duration and Format

The duration of each paper is now set at 60 minutes, standardising the exam length across all subjects. The concept of optional questions has been removed, making all questions compulsory to ensure uniformity in difficulty levels.

Revised Language and Domain Options

Tests will now be available in 13 languages, down from 33, and the domain-specific subjects have been reduced from 29 to 23. Removed subjects include Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, and Legal Studies.

CUET PG Updates

For postgraduate candidates, the test duration has been shortened from 105 minutes to 90 minutes, aligning with efforts to make the examination more concise and student-friendly.

Continuous Improvements

Following feedback from students and stakeholders, an expert committee has reviewed and recommended these changes. The revised guidelines aim to resolve previous technical and logistical issues, ensuring a smoother and more student-centric experience.

The final notification on these updates will be issued after considering feedback from stakeholders. These changes signify a step forward in aligning the CUET UG framework with the evolving demands of higher education.
