A significant majority of medical aspirants oppose the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences’ (NBEMS) decision to conduct NEET PG 2025 in two shifts, a poll conducted by Shiksha.com has revealed. According to the survey, 89% of respondents said ‘No’ to the shift-based examination, while only 9% supported the decision. The remaining 2% were undecided.
Strong Opposition to NEET PG 2025 Exam Format
On March 17, NBEMS confirmed that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 will be held on June 15, 2025, in two shifts. The move has triggered concerns among aspirants, with many fearing that varying difficulty levels between shifts could unfairly impact rankings.
In recent years, discussions around exam standardization have intensified, and the latest poll results indicate that students overwhelmingly favor a single-shift examination to ensure uniformity in evaluation.
Lingering Uncertainty from NEET PG 2024 Delays
The controversy surrounding NEET PG 2025 comes amid persistent uncertainty from NEET PG 2024, which faced multiple reschedulings. Initially set for July 7, 2024, it was preponed to June 23, only to be abruptly canceled 10 hours before the start. The exam was ultimately conducted on August 11, 2024, but its counseling process remains incomplete. The prolonged disruptions have added to students' anxiety over the smooth conduct of NEET PG 2025.
Calls for Fairness and Transparency
Medical aspirants and advocacy groups are now urging authorities to reconsider the two-shift format or at least introduce a transparent normalization formula to ensure fairness. A lack of clarity on how scores will be adjusted between shifts has raised concerns of potential ranking discrepancies.
Recently, MP Kodikunnil Suresh raised the issue in Parliament, calling for a discussion on NEET PG 2025 transparency. He pointed out the lack of normalization criteria, non-disclosure of answer keys, and unclear service PG score calculations as major concerns. The All Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) Association has also thanked the MP for highlighting these issues, emphasizing that fairness in high-stakes exams like NEET PG is non-negotiable.
Potential Legal Challenges Ahead?
As opposition to the two-shift NEET PG 2025 format grows, discussions about a potential legal challenge are surfacing. Several candidates have suggested approaching the judiciary to seek intervention, citing past instances where courts intervened in exam-related matters.
