National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences will release the FMGE syllabus 2026 for October exam with information bulletin. The exam will be conducted on October 31, 2026. The syllabus will include topics from Pre Clinical, Para Clinical and Clinical subjects. FMGE 2026 exam will be conducted based on official syllabus. So candidates should cover all the topics mentioned in syllabus. Questions in exam can be asked from any of subjects or topics.

Candidates should also check FMGE exam pattern and practise previous years' question papers. It can help candidates understand types of questions asked in exam. Regular practice can also help candidates improve their preparation. They can manage their time during exam.

Q: What are the career opportunities after passing FMGE exam?

Medical students who want to make a career in MD/ MS/ Diploma after completing their MBBS from abroad needs to appear and qualify FMGE exam.

Foreign Medical Graduate Exam (FMGE) is an important exam required to practice in India. The NBEMS conducts this exam twice a year in June and December.

Q: What is the FMGE exam?

FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) is a licensing examination conducted by the NBE (National Board of Examinations). An Indian citizen or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) who has completed their primary medical qualification from an institution outside India, but wishes to practice in India needs to clear this examination to register with the NMC (National Medical Commission)/SMC (State Medical Council). However, as Foreign Medical Graduate Examination was introduced in the year 2002, students who had completed their primary degree course on or before March 15, 2002, are not required to appear for this examination. One must also note that Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is not an entrance test and cannot be used to take admission to any institute. FMGE is a licensing examination for foreign medical graduates. The exam is held twice a year, in June and December. If someone is not able to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination exam in December, they can attempt it in the June session.

Q: How many questions are asked from Anatomy in FMGE exam?

Overall there will be 100 questions asked in the exam from Pre and Para Clinical Subject. Out of these 100 questions around 17 questions will be based on Anatomy section. Along with it, the same 17 questions will be asked from Physiology and Biochemistry sections as well.

Students are advised to attempt all the questions which are asked in the exam as it does not have negative marking scheme.

Q: How many questions will be in the Pre & Para Clinical section in FMGE exam?

There will be a total of 100 questions from Pre & Para Clinical section in the FMGE exam. There will be 17 questions each for Biochemistry, Physiology and Anatomy section. Along with this, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Pathology each have 13 questions. At last the Forensic Medicine section has 10 questions.

Q: How many questions will be asked from Obstetrics & Genecology in FMGE exam?

There will be a total of 200 questions asked in the FMGE exam from the Clinical subject. Out of these 200 questions around 30 questions will be asked in the exam from Obstetrics & Genecology. Though the final number of questions can be changed in the exam.

FMGE 2026 Exam Pattern

The FMGE 2026 October exam will be held online at different centres chosen by NBE. The exam has two papers. There are 150 multiple‑choice questions. The question paper is in English only. Students get 150 minutes to answer all 150 questions. There is a break between the two parts of the exam. Each question has 4 options. Students must choose one correct answer from the four options.

Q: What are the specifications of the photograph that needs to be pasted on the FMGE admit card?

The specifications of the photograph are mentioned in the application brochure and website as well. Candidates can check and upload the photograph accordingly. Just remember that the passport-size picture must not be older than 6 months. The photo pasted on the admit card must be the same as uploaded on the website at the time of applying for the FMGE exam.
