The unrest in Bangladesh has intensified in recent months, with increased political violence and disruptions affecting daily life. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has fled the country and is currently in India amid escalating unrest.

In response to the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that Bangladeshi students who have recently completed their studies and are currently residing in university hostels will be permitted to continue their accommodation until the situation stabilizes in their home country. The university has decided to waive all hostel fees for these students during their extended stay, though those seeking to remain beyond this period will be subject to guest charges. This move aims to alleviate the difficulties that returning Bangladeshi students might face due to the current volatile conditions back home.

Prof. S. V. S. Raju, Coordinator of the International Centre at BHU, stated, β€œGiven the challenging circumstances our Bangladeshi students are facing, we felt it necessary to offer them a safe haven until the situation in their country improves. We are committed to providing all possible support and have assured them that any issues during their extended stay will be promptly addressed by the university.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has fled the country and is currently in India amid escalating unrest, further exacerbating concerns among students and their families about returning to such an unstable environment. This crisis has led to widespread instability and heightened fears for personal safety.

BHU, which annually enrolls hundreds of international students, including a significant number from Bangladesh, has historically supported its international community during times of crisis.
