In each session, candidates will be given different sets of CSIR NET question papers.

Though the NTA undertook all the necessary efforts to maintain the same difficulty level for all the sets of question papers, it might be possible that some candidates could have ended up attempting a tougher set of CSIR UGC NET questions for a particular paper. Such a situation could end up lowering the CSIR NET scores of candidates.

To resolve this problem and ensure fair evaluation of candidates’ performance, NTA uses the Normalisation procedure based on Percentile Score.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is the cutoff for CSIR NET result 2026?
A:

Candidates must score at least 33 percent in the general, EWS, and OBC categories and 25 percent in the SC, ST, and PwD categories for the CSIR UGC NET exam. The December session result was released on the official website at csirnet.nta.nic.in.

Q:   Does category affect the CSIR NET cutoff?
A:

Yes, category affects the CSIR NET cutoff. The CSIR NET cutoff marks vary by category and subject. As per the official notification, candidates must score at least 33% in the General, EWS, and OBC categories and a minimum of 25% in the SC, ST, and PwD categories to qualify for both Fellowship and Lectureship/Assistant Professor.

Q:   How is the CSIR NET cut-off determined for various subjects and categories?
A:
The CSIR NET cutoff marks for each subject and category depends upon various factors as given below.
  • Number of the candidates appearing for the exam.
  • Level of difficulty of the exam.
  • Total number of available fellowships or positions, etc.

What is CSIR NET Percentile Calculator?

Percentile scores are the scores based on the relative performance of all candidates who appear for the CSIR NET examination. Basically, the marks obtained by candidates in various shifts are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session.

The percentile score calculation indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored either equal to or below that particular percentile in the examination. Therefore, the topper with the highest score of each shift of CSIR UGC NET will get the same percentile of 100. The marks obtained between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate percentiles.

The CSIR NET percentile calculator will be used to normalise the scores (instead of the raw marks of the candidate). The CSIR NET normalisation of marks is also used for the preparation of the merit lists.

The CSIR NET percentile scores are calculated up to 7 decimal places to avoid ties among the candidates.

CSIR NET Result Preparation with Normalisation of Scores

The CSIR NET result is prepared with the normalisation of marks of candidates as per the given steps:

Step 1: Distribution of candidates in two shifts

Firstly, the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam is distributed in two sessions so that each session has an equal number of candidates. The two sessions are as follows:

Session-1: Day-1 Shift-1, Session-2: Day-1 Shift-2

Note: If the exam is held in a more number of days or less number of shifts, the candidates will be divided accordingly.

Step 2: Result preparation for each session

The CSIR NET result is prepared for each session in the form of:

  • Raw scores
  • Percentile scores of total raw scores

The percentile score of each candidate in a particular session is calculated as per the given formula:

UGC NET total percentile calculation formula
Step 3: Compilation of CSIR NET scores

The percentile scores of the total raw scores for all the sessions, calculated in Step 2, are merged to form the NTA scores (percentile). These NTA scores are then used by the NTA for the compilation of CSIR UGC NET results.
