CSIR NET 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the CSIR NET 2026 Notification for the June session on the official website at csirnet.nta.nic.in. It is expected in February 2026. The CSIR NET application form will be released along with the notification. It is advised to the candidates to go through the eligibility criteria before submitting the form online.

The CSIR NET exam is conducted twice in a year that is June and December. It will be conducted in an online mode for five subjects namely Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has been authorised by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with the task of conducting the Joint CSIR-UGC NET 2026 Examination. Those candidates who want to pursue their career as lecturers and Junior Research Fellow persons in the faculty of science need to give this exam. A:

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - National Eligibility Test exam is conducted twice in a year, mainly in the months of June and December. It will be held for five subjects that is Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Earth Sciences.

CSIR NET 2026 Notification

The authority is expected to release the CSIR NET Notification 2026 in February for the June session. Also, for the December session, it will be published in September 2026. The official notification PDF consists of all the important details about an exam including exam date, application form date, exam pattern, eligibility, syllabus, admit card and more. It is advised to the candidates to check the official portal for the latest updates.

CSIR NET Application Form 2026

The NTA will release the CSIR NET application form 2026 for the June session in February (tentatively). It will be released along with the notification. Candidates will be able to apply by visiting the official website by logging in through the credentials. Candidates can check below the methods to apply for CSIR NET exam.

Q:   What is the full form of CSIR NET?
A:

The CSIR NET stands for the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test. It determines the eligibility of Indian nationals for the 'award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor.' Also, appointment as 'Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.' and 'admission to Ph.D. only' in several Indian universities and colleges.

Q:   What is the minimum qualifying score for CSIR NET exam?
A:

Candidates required to score at least 33% in the General, EWS, and OBC categories, and 25% in the SC, ST, and PwD categories to qualify. This is the minimum bench mark. In Life Science subject, the raw marks obtained have been normalised into NTA score/percentile and results have been declared based on percentile cut-off as indicated.

Q:   What is the age limit for applying to the UGC NET exam?
A:

There is no upper age limit to apply for the Assistant Professor positions. But for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), the maximum age limit is 30 years as of June 1 of the exam year. There is also an ahe relaxation provided to the candidates from reserved categories including OBC, SC and ST

  • First, candidates need to register themselves online
  • Login with the credentials used during the process of registration
  • Fill out the CSIR NET application form with the application number and password as shared on the email ID and phone number
  • Upload the scanned documents as per the requirements. The instructions for the same will also be available here.
  • After submitting the online form, candidates need to pay the application fee via online payment gateways available

CSIR NET Eligibility Criteria 2026

The eligibility criteria of CSIR NET 2026 plays a crucial role before submitting out the CSIR UGC NET application form. It is also important for a candidate to meet the CSIR NET eligibility. If in case candidates are found ineligible by the NTA at any stage, then they will be disqualified for the exam. Therefore, it is important for a candidate to go through the CSIR NET eligibility criteria as prescribed by the NTA below. The CSIR NET Eligibility 2026 comprises the following aspects:

  • Nationality
  • CSIR NET Age limit
  • Relaxation in upper age limit
  • Educational Qualification

Nationality

Those candidates who are Indian citizens are eligible to apply for NTA CSIR NET exam.

Age Limit

JRF: Not more than 30 years as on the first day of the month in which the examination is concluded that is June 2026. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender categories and to women applicants. 

For the position of Assistant Professor or for applying for PhD programs, there is no upper age limit. 

Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit in applying for Joint CSIR UGC-NET for Assistant Professor.

Admission to PhD: There is no upper age limit in applying for Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for Admission to PhD.

Education Qualification

It is important to consider the qualification. Candidates need to possess either of the below-mentioned qualifications with at least 55 per cent marks (for General and OBC) or 50 per cent marks (for Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disability (PwD) candidates). 

MSc or equivalent degree

Integrated BS-MS

BS (4 years)

BE

BTech

BPharma

 MBBS

On the basis of a Master’s Degree or Equivalent Degree

  • Candidates who are enrolled for MSc or have completed MSc or equivalent degree/ Integrated BS-MS/ BS-4 years/ BE/ BTech/ BPharma/ MBBS as of the last date of the CSIR NET application 2026 are also eligible to apply under the Result Awaited (RA) category.
  • The condition of RA category candidates is that they should complete their qualifying degree with the required percentage of marks within the validity period of two years from the date of declaration of the Joint CSIR UGC NET result failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.

On the basis of a BSc (Hons) or equivalent degree or candidates enrolled in an integrated MS-PhD program

Candidates who hold a BSc (Hons) or equivalent degree or candidates enrolled in an integrated MS-PhD program with at least 55 per cent marks (50 per cent for SC/ST/PwD candidates) are also eligible to apply for the CSIR NET exam. Also, candidates who hold an undergraduate degree will be eligible for CSIR fellowship only after getting registered for PhD/Integrated PhD course within the validity period of two years, as per the official website.

On the basis of a Bachelor’s Degree

  • Those candidates who possess only a Bachelor's degree are eligible to apply for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) only and not the Lecturership (LS)/Assistant Professor. That is, BE/ BS/ BTech/ BPharma/ MBBS final year/ result-awaited candidates are eligible to apply for JRF only. Such candidates are not eligible to apply for LS.
  • BSc (Hons.) final year/Result awaited candidates are also not eligible to apply.

Others

  • Candidates who possess a PhD degree and who have passed their master’s before September 19, 1992, with at least 50 per cent marks are eligible to apply for lectureship only.
  • The eligibility for Lectureship/Assistant Professor of NET qualified candidates is subject to fulfilling the criteria laid down by UGC.

CSIR NET 2026 Exam Pattern

The CSIR NET 2026 exam pattern will be released along with the notification for the June session. It is crucial for the candidates to know the pattern of an exam as they will get an idea of what type of questions will be asked in the examination, marking scheme, topics, etc. The CSIR NET question papers consists of three sections namely Part A (General Aptitude), Part B (Subject-specific), and Part C (Higher-order scientific questions). There will also be a negative marking of 25% in the exam which varies with subject. The exam is of 200 marks and negative marking applicable as per the subject guidelines.

CSIR NET 2026 Syllabus

The CSIR NET Syllabus 2026 will also be released along with the notification for the June session. Candidates can check below the CSIR UGC NET Syllabus for all the five subjects namely Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences. The syllabus for CSIR NET Part A is same for all five subjects. Part A contains questions related to General Science, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analysis and Research Aptitude.Where as the CSIR NET Part B and Part C syllabus differs subject-wise.

CSIR NET 2026 Admit Card

Those candidates who will fill their application form successfully will be able to sit in the exam. Ans, also will be issued the admit card. The CSIR NET admit card 2026 will be released on the official portal at csirnet.nta.nic.in few days before the exam. Candidates will be able to download it by using the login credentials. Hall ticket is mandatory to carry to the examination centre by the candidate. Without, he or she will not be allowed to take the exam. The method to download the admit card is provided below:

  • Enter the application number, date of birth and security code (as shown in the image)

CSIR NET 2026 Answer Key

The authority will first release the CSIR NET provisional answer key on the official portal at csirnet.nta.nic.in. With the help of the answer key, candidate will be able to check their answers and calculate their scores. Therefore, the answer key is released in two stages namely the provisional answer key and then final answer key. Candidates can check below the methods to download the answer key.

  • Visit at csirnet.nta.nic.in.
  • Check the CSIR NET Answer Key Link 2026 on the homepage or in the Latest Update section.
  • Click on the link and Proceed.
  • Choose the CSIR NET exam session and the subject for which you appeared in the exam.
  • The Answer key will be displayed on the screen.
  • Download it and calculate your probable scores.

CSIR NET 2026 Result

The authority will announce the CSIR NET Result 2026 for the June session at csirnet.nta.nic.in. Candidates will be able to download their exam result by logging in with the application number and date of birth. The CSIR NET e-certificate 2026 will be released based on the final results declared by the authority.
