Q: ย  Is it worth pursuing BTech at Chandigarh University?
9thumbs up
A:

As per NIRF 2025 rankings, CU is ranked 31 under the 'Engineering' category (better than IIT Ropar which was ranked #32 under NIRF'25 Engineering category) and managed to improve its position from the last year's ranking, which was 32 in the year 2024.

In terms of the placements, below is what the Engineering students received:

  • The highest international and domestic packages offered during CU placement 2025 was INR 170 LPA and INR 54.75 LPA, respectively, to BTech students of CSE & IT branches.
  • While for other branches, such as Mechanical, Aerospace, Mechatronics & Automobile, the highest salary offered was INR 9 LPA.
  • The highest package offered to the students of Civil, Petroleum & Chemical Engineering branches went up till INR 15 LPA.
  • For EE & ECE, the placements drive wrapped up with a highest package of INR 10 LPA.

Beyond placements, the university is also known for incubating over 250 start-ups out of which 50 have a turnover of over 50 lakh.

To conclude, it is evident that CU is a great option for Engineering aspirants if you're willing to pursue CSE & IT branches, however, for other non-IT branches, the placements are decent but not as great as the CS & IT branches.

The college is fine, but the hostel rules have to be fair for guys and girls.
Placements: I am not sure about the exact percentage of students placed, but the packages usually start from 6 LPA to 12โ€“13 LPA. Top companies that visit for placements include Nutanix, SaaS, and Deloitte. Top roles offered in this course are designer and management positions. Although there is a smaller number of seniors, most of them are well placed.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure seems pretty dull and not very lively. Only two floors are occupied for design students, covering all four branches (Product, Interior, Fashion, and Fine Arts). The Wi-Fi connectivity is irregular, but the labs are pretty nice. I do not think there is a specific library in my department right now. There is a medical room available from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM, but the medical store is a bit far, which can be a problem in an emergency. Otherwise, boys and girls have separate hostel curfew timings, which is infuriating. Safety is required for both, hence, the timings should not differ.
Faculty: The teachers in my department are genuinely nice and come from various backgrounds with helpful advice. The teaching quality is good, and the classes are pretty enjoyable, however, the workload distribution could be better, as we get burdened with a lot of work by the end of the semester. The exams are not very difficult. The curriculum can improve, as it currently omits several fundamental topics that foundation students should be taught.
Other: I choose this course because of my interest in arts and crafts. I like that the work environment is very healthy compared to other courses. I wish for improvements in the infrastructure and the machinery available for learning. A lot of events are hosted, but the guest performers are majorly Punjabi or Haryanvi artists. The events also have barricades separating guys and girls even during Garba, which ruins the essence of festivals if you cannot celebrate with your friends.

College review and other general thoughts.
Placements: Almost every student is placed. The companies appointed for placements are among the best. At least 60 percent of students get placed as per my seniors' feedback, and they get good packages as well. However, in my opinion, the college should improve on conducting industrial visits.
Infrastructure: Everything is fine. Our classrooms, library, and overall facilities are good. The infrastructure is decent, but it is not design-oriented; they should focus more on creating design-worthy infrastructure and beautify it so that it reflects a design-oriented atmosphere. Overall, it is good.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, highly qualified, and knowledgeable. The experience is very good. All the courses and curriculum make students industry-ready. Everything is good, and if you prepare well, you will score good marks.
Other: I have been interested in Industrial Design since my school days, and my parents recommended that I enter this field. I feel the best aspects are the placement opportunities and the design thinking workshops.

Good college if you are looking within North India, Punjab, or Mohali.
Placements: As a student of the Industrial Design department, I feel they have recently started providing good placements, and they are working on their placement committee. I am hoping for the best outcome. I feel they should also work on providing more industry experience so that we get better industry exposure.
Infrastructure: At the university level, the infrastructure and facilities are commendable. However, as an Industrial Design student, I feel the study materials provided can be increased. At the hostel level, the facilities are good. However, hostel attendance can be taken around 5:00 PM on event days so that hostellers do not have to rush for attendance in the middle of an event.
Faculty: Faculty members are highly knowledgeable and commendable. They are industry-aligned and work for the welfare of the university and the students. They regularly provide support to their students. The examination department should provide the dates for the final practical and theory exams two months before their commencement so that students staying out of state can book their travel tickets accordingly.
Other: I choose Industrial Design as it aligns with my key interests. I wish for more industry experts to visit and a better placement committee.

Happening and a good college life.
Placements: There are decent placements, and a person can opt for this college if seeking a good and decent start in your career. They also provide internships for your career development. You should really be joining this college for your good future and a nice career.
Infrastructure: Too good campus, really big and with a really good infrastructure. It is a vast campus, and sections are divided in the campus according to department-wise buildings. There are so many places to eat and you can also hang out on the campus whenever you want.
Faculty: Polite and respectful faculty members do listen to the students and are really experienced. They have proper knowledge about what they are teaching and it matches the requirements of the students. Exams are strictly taken and are as per the requirements.
Other: If you want to join this college, it is a nice decision and you can opt for the college. There are too many events and a good campus life.

Great faculty, industry-oriented curriculum, good placements, and great infrastructure and crowd.
Placements: In Chandigarh University, there is about a 50-60 percent placement rate. The highest package, which is international, is around 59.9 LPA. Overall, it is a great college to consider, internships usually start from the third year onwards, and you get proper industry experience.
Infrastructure: There is a study room, and the infrastructure is adequate. The food is edible but not so great. There is a gym as well. Overall, it is a decent stay. The warden and staff are trustworthy and pleasant. There is no laundry facility though, which is a problem.
Faculty: The faculty here is immensely talented, and they are really helpful and insightful. They provide real-world knowledge, and that is really appropriate. The curriculum is really great as well, everything important and worthwhile is covered, and it makes us industry-ready in the best way possible.

Great faculty, industry-oriented curriculum, and good placements.
Placements: Recent placement rates are 50-60 percent, and the highest package is 59.9 LPA. The placement department is very helpful. Overall, the placement rate is good. Also, internships start around the 5th to 6th semester. So, overall, there are various opportunities for students to get in touch with the industry.
Infrastructure: Chandigarh University has good infrastructure and an inviting environment for study. The classrooms here are very good. The workshops also provide us with hands-on experience. The hostel facility in this college is decent. The mess menu is decent, and various options for room seating are available.
Faculty: The faculty here is very knowledgeable and helpful. The course is very well-structured and framed to give students every knowledge required. The curriculum is tailored to the industry experience. There are 2 mid-semester exams and final exams taken. Also, in the design department, a jury is taken for final exams.
Other: I choose industrial design as it gives me a very wide range of areas I can work in. In my course, it would be more beneficial if more hands-on workshops could be provided. On the campus, many events and fests are organized to give students opportunities to showcase their talent too.
