IISc admissions begin with registration for the preferred course. Candidates need to fulfil the eligibility requirements as well as selection criteria for admission. Check below step-wise IISc Bangalore admission process:
STEP 1: IISc Bangalore Application Process 2026
The mode of application is online. Candidates belonging to General/ OBC/ EWS categories need to pay an application fee of INR 800 (INR 400 for SC/ ST/ PwD and INR 2,000 for ERP candidates of all categories). for Research/ PG courses. The application fees for four-year BSc (Research) course is INR 500 (INR 250 for SC/ ST/ PwD).
Aspirants need to apply for JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced for admission in BTech programme.
STEP 2: Selection
The university accepts various national-level entrance exam scores, such as JEE Main, JEE Advance, CEED etc. for shortlisting candidates. Check below selection details for top course:
- For BTech, aspirants are shortlisted based on JEE Main scores.
- Admission in BSc (Research) is via two modes: IISER Aptitude Test or JEE Advanced
- For MSc, selection is based on JAM/ GATE/ JEST scores depending on the specialisations
- Selection for GATE qualified candidates is based on 100% GATE score for Master's in Engineering. For students from CFTI* (graduates of any course with at least 4 years duration and more than 8 CGPA, selection is based on 100% CAM (Career Analysis Marks).
The institute also conducts a personal interview round for admission in MTech and MDes courses. For PhD, aspirants must have GPAT, NET JRF, GATE scores for admission followed by an interview round.
*CFTI is Centrally Funded Technical Institute. It is an admission pathway that allos graduates from top government-funded institutes to apply for PG and doctoral courses without GATE or any other national-level entrance exam scores.
STEP 3: Cutoff
IISc offers admission in BSc (Research) and BTech via JEE Advanced scores. Students must score equal or above IISc Bangalore cutoff for admission. The closing rank in 2026 JEE Advanced Round-1 was 712 for BTech Mathematics & Computing.
STEP 4: Counselling
The seats is BTech course of IISc is offered via JoSAA Counselling. Applicants are offered seat in MTech and MDes course based on GATE via COAP or Common Offer Acceptance Portal.
STEP 5: Admission Confirmation
After completion of the selection rounds, the shortlisted candidates are called for verification of the documents. Aspirants need to pay the IISc Bangalore fees to confirm their seat in the university.

The difficulty level of CEED exam has been maintained by authorities over the years. However, most design aspirants share that if difficulty level of all design entrance exams conducted for PG level courses is compared then CEED is slightly easier than NID Entrance Exam. This is primarily because the drawing questions asked in NID that are considered to be tougher than those put forth in CEED exam. Note that CEED exam is for admission to the M.Des courses offered by the eight participating colleges. Meanwhile, the NID that for the M.Des programme has three participating colleges.
