Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is DTU as good as an IIT?
A:

DTU's BTech in Civil Engineering course has been rated 4.2/5 by 95 Shiksha verified students, while the same course at IIT Delhi has been rated 4.6/5 by 41 students at Shiksha. Also, as per the NIRF 2024 Rankings, Delhi Technological University has been ranked 27 under the 'Engineering' category, however, there are many IITs that are ranked before DTU in the same category. But, despite that, DTU competes against the top-notch NITs and second-phase IITs in streams such as Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Mathematics and Computing. Hence, it is safe to say that DTU is as good as a second-phase IIT or an NIT.

Q:   Can I get admission in DTU through JEE Mains with 76.98 percentile?
A:

Usually, the cutoff for DTU stays around 90, even for the reserved categories. Therefore, getting into B.Tech courses at DTU is difficult with a JEE Main percentile score of 90 or below. The cutoff also goes high and low every year, depending on the following factors:

  • Number of aspirants registered
  • The difficulty level of the exam
  • Total number of seats available
  • Total number of applications received for a particular program
  • Category under which admission is sought

Therefore, it is very difficult to predict the exact cutoff and give an exact answer to this question. Students can, however, use this college predictor created by Shiksha to know the college they can get with their JEE Main score.

Good brand value and decent tech placements.
Placements: Overall placement states may be low. But placements are good for tech branches, like CSE, Maths computing, Software, IT, etc. Students of branches like environment and Biotech are rarely placed. The placement value is good. And the companies are reputable.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not of good quality. Some hostels are good with AC, but 1st year hostels are very old and in terrible conditions. The classrooms lack proper Wi-Fi. But this all being secondary, the primary thing is the lack of clean water on campus. Once, a lizard was found inside the water dispenser near our classrooms.
Faculty: Faculty, curriculum and exams are all outdated. There is very little faculty that actually come to teach. Others are just doing formality. The curriculum is very old. Most of the students study from online lectures that are 10-15 years old. The world and technology have come a long way from there.
Other: The best thing would be brand value and the peer group.

DTU is basically a brand.
Placements: Around 80 percent of students get placed. Placement opportunities are good. Top recruiting companies include Amazon, Google, Swiggy, and Zomato. Many students also get internships, with the maximum internship value reaching 1 lakh. There are good internship opportunities for all students.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is very good. There are three boys’ hostels and one girls’ hostel. All sports activities are available, including a gym and cricket nets. Wi-Fi is also available. The college has a big library, and the classrooms are well-maintained.
Faculty: Teachers are experienced and friendly. There is a good rapport between teachers and students, which makes studying enjoyable. There is not much exam pressure. The course curriculum is very relevant to the subject. The semester exams are not very difficult.
Other: The gender ratio is not very balanced.

Life at DTU has both problems and benefits.
Placements: Almost 75 percent of students get placed in our college in my branch. The highest package is around 85.3 LPA, and the average package is around 15 LPA. Companies like Atlassian, Google, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs regularly visit our college for placements.
Infrastructure: Our college is quite poor in terms of providing facilities. The college library Wi-Fi does not work properly. Labs are poorly equipped, and most equipment does not work. However, the outlet areas are quite good with outlets like Hims, Dominos, etc.
Faculty: Faculty members are quite good, but the problem is that the course curriculum is not relevant due to technologies like AI, which is a problem in almost every engineering college. However, the examination department is quite good with good teachers. But what benefit do I get if I have to learn academic skills beyond the curriculum.

College is good with an excellent placement rate, a good campus view, and a hill vibe.
Placements: The placement percentage of DTU is above 85%. The highest package is 64 LPA, the average package is 20 LPA, and the lowest package is in the range of 7 to 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, and Amazon. The internship rate is above 90 per cent in companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and Cisco. Top roles include software development engineer, web developer, and full-stack developer.
Infrastructure: Facilities in DTU are quite good, with a good Wi-Fi connection, proper labs, and classrooms with a capacity of around 100 students with comfortable tables. The library is also very good, with many books on different topics, a good Wi-Fi connection, and proper facilities with a lot of space for reading and studying it.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified and helpful, with great knowledge in their fields. They are experts in their core subjects. The course is curriculum-related and provides a wide scope in the tech industry. It prepares students for the industry and encourages them to go beyond the limits of the industry. Semester exams are quite moderate, with a pass percentage of around 30 to 33%.
Other: I have a great interest in software development, so I chose this course. This course is solid and still allows us to compete in placements with CSE students, which is a good thing about it. I don't think anything needs to be upgraded in my course. Events and fests are quite good in this college, having fests like Yuvaan and Engifest, which are the largest fests in North India. The college has connectivity with metro stations around it; Samaypur Badli and Rithala are the closest to it. It also gives students opportunities for scholarships.

Placements were lower in 2024-2025 as compared to previous years.
Placements: In B.Tech, Electrical Engineering, placement offers for 2024-25 were 153 out of 285 registrations on campus. The average CTC offered was 12.89 LPA, with the highest package being 45 LPA. Top roles offered are generally technical roles like SDE, and top firms like Microsoft, Deloitte, and Atlassian, and come for recruiting. Internships are open only to students of a certain calibre.
Infrastructure: First-year hostel rooms are pretty average, but all the facilities are available, like a common room, and there is a central library on campus. The quality of food in the mess is also above average compared to other government colleges. There is a health centre for medicine on the college campus. The sports and games infrastructure is top-notch. There are some cons as well, like Wi-Fi speeds are low, and the rooms don't have proper flooring.
Faculty: Campus life is good, exposure is good, crowd is also good, sometimes mixed. Events and fests this year were not up to the mark, as there has been just one fest, the Diwali mela, and no freshers till now; these things can be improved. Sports activities are good, and the infrastructure, competitions are also held, which are highly competitive.

A short review about DTU.
Placements: For the DTU batch of 2024, many companies arrived, and the placement went well, with the highest being 86 LPA and an average package of 15.33 for the overall college. While talking about the 2024 class of EP, the highest went about 26 LPA or more, whereas the average was around 11 LPA.
Infrastructure: 1st year hostels are very poorly built, and they are from old times, like when the university was built, which tells you about their condition. It's safe to say the 1st year's ones are not decent for living. The food quality is also very poor, it's just okay.
Faculty: Teachers are great, but some professors are just too much to bear. Otherwise, most are great. About exam strictness, it has increased significantly in recent years, and the course is also now more oriented towards the subject. The recent exam is a complete mess.

The opening and closing rank depends on the category and quota of candidates. For General category under all India quota, opening rank was 2109 and closing rank was 4008. Cut off are differant when it comes to other categories or female candidates and even domicile of home state. Admission to B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering in DTU - Delhi Technological University is based on the scores obtained in the entrance exam JEE. Applicants are advised to confirm what category are they applying while checking for cut offs.

Q:   Is there a separate entrance exam to get admission in DTU for B.Tech?
A:

For BTech admission, DTU accepts JEE Main followed by JAC counselling and the entire admission process is conducted via Joint Admission Counselling (JAC) Delhi. To be eligible, candidates must fulfil the below eligibility criteria:

  • Delhi Region candidates (85% of seats): Aspirants passing the qualifying exam from a recognised school/ college/ institute located within the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi will be considered for the Delhi Region only
  • Outside Delhi Region candidates (15% of seats): Aspirants passing the qualifying examination from a recognised school/ college/ institute located outside the National Capital Territory of Delhi will be considered for Outside Delhi Region only.
Q:   Is DTU worthy to join, considering the increased seat intake?
A:

Every year, the universities and colleges change their seat intake so that every student gets an equal opportunity to pursue education from the best universities. This does not make DTU any less competitive. In 2023 as well, India Today ranked the college 9 under the ‘Engineering’ category and 8 under the ‘Engineering (Government)’ category. Every year the popularity of this university is rising but the university is not compromising with the quality of education they are offering.

Q:   Does DTU offer BDes programme?
A:

Yes, Delhi Technological University offers a four-year BDes programme to students in the field of Design. DTU started offering the course in Fashion Design specialisation (Check Top Fashion Design Colleges in India here) and it mentioned about starting Film Design specialisation. Interested candidates can apply online on the official admission portal of DTU. Admisison to BDes is subject to a valid score in the UCEED exam. Interested candidates, however, are required to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria set by the university for admission which is to be a pass out of Class 12 with Science/ Commerce/ Arts or a three-year Diploma recognised by AICTE.

Q:   Which college is better to pursue BTech in Mechanical Engineering among DTU and NSIT?
A:
As confirmed by a final-year Mechanical undergraduate at DTU-Professors, academics, labs and everything else may be comparable but you aren't going to study all the time. So, when it comes to activities outside the classroom, DTU trumps NSIT easily. Be it curricular fests, sports activities, cultural societies, lenient environment, better infrastructure or even campus as a whole, DTU is far better than NSIT. And taking into consideration the reputation and demand of Mechanical, DTU's Mechanical Engineering stream trumps NSIT's. Even in the field of placements, companies prefer DTU over NSIT for the recruitment of Mechanical Engineering. NSIT needs time to set up its brand when it comes to Mechanicals. '
