In terms of infrastructure and quality of faculty available here, it is one of the best NITs

Placements: The placement of M.Tech students in the electrical branch in core companies is not up to the mark. Hardly 50% of them gets placed. The salary varies with the categories of the company. Core company pays an average of 6-7 LPA while software companies pay around 10-12 LPA and the analytic ones pay 4-5 LPA. Among the top software companies that visit us are Microsoft, Codenation, Amazon, Flipkart, Oracle, Goldman Sachs, etc. and the core companies are Tata Motors, General Electric, Qualcomm, Mercedes R&D, SAP Labs, etc. and various analytic companies like Mu Sigma, ZS Associates, Exl, Tredence and Capgemini also visit us. Many of the above-mentioned companies also take students under their internship programmes.

Infrastructure: NIT Rourkela is best among all NITs in terms of infrastructure, with 1024 acres of campus size. All halls are provided with the high-speed Internet through wired and wireless connections. The Internet speed is up to 2 Mbps. NITR has one of the biggest libraries in Odisha i.e. 'Biju Pattnaik Central Library' which is accessible to students 24*7. A healthcare centre attached to Apollo Pharmacy with 3 doctors is also available. Regarding sports, NITR has a 25*50m Olympic size swimming pool, 3 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 2 volleyball courts, a Sachin Tendulkar cricket ground with floodlights and a Dilip Tirkey Stadium for all kind of sports. The quality of labs and classrooms is very good equipped with a very talented group of professors. Out of 6 boys' hostels, 2 hostels are exclusively for freshers with twin sharing rooms. Only final-year students are given single rooms.

Faculty: The electrical branch of NITR is equipped with a group of very qualified and knowledgeable faculty members who have great depth in their field of subjects. Classes start from 8 AM to 5.15 PM with a lunch break from 12 PM to 1.15 PM. 5 working days a week and each day, we have a lab of 3 hours followed by 3-4 classes of 1 hour each. The curriculum for Mtech students is less stressed as we have to take up a project of 20credits which takes 2semester to finish. The guides/faculty members are very friendly and come to our aid in our problems. The atmosphere in electrical department is very peaceful and study-resourceful.
