Degrades various qualities being a reputed NIT in India.

Placements: Around 20-25 per cent of students were only placed in our course. The highest package is 7.5 LPA and the lowest is 4.2 LPA and TCS is the top recruiter. No internship by any student. Production technology, metal manufacturing processes, quality engineering etc.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure is well established but a lot of equipment is damaged and maintenance is very poor. The hostel is very good. Food is very nice almost every day you will get non-veg, mess area is very big and clean, a lot of cafeterias inside the campus to chill out, medical facilities, sports, outdoor games and indoor games everything nice.

Faculty: Teaching quality is average. Courses are still old standards and not industry-specific. For the change of syllabus, AICTE should have taken steps to improve the syllabus so that every student can be industry-ready. The semester exam level is moderate and the pass percentage is 40%. .

Other: I have done my graduation in mechanical engineering and according to my GATE score I took admission in production engineering at NIT Rourkela. Lots of new things I learnt from the institute. I have thoroughly enjoyed my major project and I have completed it successfully. Events, fest, campus crowd is some of the best I have seen. Connectivity is poor.

Pretty much satisfied with overall infrastructure, but still needs to improve placements

Placements: In my batch, placements were average for M.Tech students. Very few students got selected for dream or super-dream companies. In mechanical engineering, opportunities were there for entering into the IT sector (companies like IBM, TCS and Infosys) while placements in core sector were rather difficult. Approximately 40 percent of the total strength got placed in either the teaching sector or the IT sector or core. The highest salary was 8.5 to 10 LPA, the lowest salary was 3.25 LPA and the average salary was 4.5 LPA.

Infrastructure: NIT-Rourkela is standout considering the facilities it provides to its students. We are provided Wi-Fi for 12 hrs approximately per day with software(DC++) from where you can download the latest TV series, movies, study material, etc. Sports amenities are also there like gym, swimming pool, a hockey stadium, basketball court, etc. Labs and Classrooms are equipped with proper facilities to facilitate easy transfer of knowledge to students. Quality of food served in the canteen is both veg and non-veg, so students from all over the country don't have issues adjusting. Also, a treat feast is being served on Sundays. Hostel rooms are normal and are provided with a proper lighting facility. Cleanliness is also taken care of by the staff members there. I didn't face any infrastructure related issues during my tenure at the college.

Faculty: A few of them were quite talented and were helpful in transferring knowledge in the best way to students. The rest were fine and carried out their work with not giving weightage to students whether they got the content or not. Teaching methods included the use of a projector(using slides and videos) to make learning efficient and pleasing. The student-faculty ratio was about 50:1. I didn't get the industry exposure. The course curriculum was perfectly designed and well-managed. One useful thing about the college was it provides ample opportunities and exposure to its students provided they are willing to put their ideas forward.
