It is a good college for students who work hard and want good jobs and placements.
Placements: A lot of students are placed in our course, with an almost a 97% placement rate. The lowest package is around 3 LPA, and the highest is 33 LPA. Top recruiting companies vary from core to non-core sectors, but the main ones include Flipkart, Amazon, IBM, Tata, Google, Infosys, and Wipro.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi in our hostel works on a 5G outdoor-based system, but most sites are blocked. Sometimes the internet goes off, which has also happened before exams. Only the top floors get 5G mobile data, while the lower floors barely get any network. Labs are old and not fully renovated, but they are manageable and help in scoring easily. Classrooms and the library are the best places on campus. The hostel is very old. The mess food is average but reasonable for the price. The gym is the best part, while the medical facilities are quite far.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable, but students need to focus in class and study regularly. The course curriculum is the same as it has been for a long time and follows an old structure. Some first-year and add-on subjects are not very useful. Semester exams are easy if you study regularly and attend classes. But many students, including me, leave preparation for the last moment, making it difficult. The pass percentage is around 35%.
Other: I chose this course so I could do my master’s in Electrical or Electronics in the USA. The course is currently the hardest. It focuses on numerical problems. The curriculum has not changed much over time. Teaching quality could be improved. Study materials should be more specific with fewer minor subjects. There are frequent internships and fests almost every month, which makes campus life active.

Great choice for Mining Engineering with supportive faculty and vibrant culture.
Placements: NIT Rourkela Mining branch has decent placements. Around 80% students got placed. The highest package was 12 LPA, and the average was around 7-8 LPA. Top recruiters are Coal India and Vedanta. Many students got management trainee and graduate engineer roles.
Infrastructure: The mining department has decent labs and classrooms with decent Wi-Fi connectivity. The central library is huge and well-stocked. Hostels are average; room's are okay, but maintenance could be better. Mess food is manageable, but gets repetitive. Sports facilities and medical campus care are quite good.
Faculty: The faculty members in the mining department are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and generally supportive. The teaching quality is good, though some subjects require self-study. The curriculum is relevant and aligned with industry standards. Semester exams are moderate difficult, and the pass percentage is quite high, around 90-95%. .
Other: I chose mining due to the strong core placements. The best thing is the huge, green campus and the active club culture. Fest season, like Innovision and Nitrutsav, is amazing and brings great energy. The campus crowd is diverse, and extracurricular opportunities are plenty, though traveling out of Rourkela takes time.

The college is good. It is equal to IIT level.
Placements: Approximately 80% students are placed. The highest package is 39 LPA, the lowest is 4 LPA, and the average is 12 LPA. Many tech giants come for interviews. There are not many core opportunities. There are many top roles, but not in core. If a student is placed at a tech IT company, then only he or she gets SDE-level posts. Most jobs are junior-level employee roles.
Infrastructure: The college hostel facilities are great. Food is above average. The canteen is also above average. Medical facilities are very good here in NITR. Sports and games facilities are very good. There is a swimming pool present in NITR. The sports culture is very good, and a new indoor complex is also available.
Faculty: Faculty quality is average to good. Teachers are knowledgeable and skilled but difficult to learn from. The semester exams are very hectic. The pass percentage of students is around 70 percent.
Other: The branches are good. Events and everything are also good.

The best college for a student.
Placements: Almost all students get placed in our college. The highest package goes around 1 crore. The lowest package goes around 7 LPA, and the average package is around 10 LPA. The top recruiting companies that come are Amazon, Flipkart, Microsoft, etc.
Infrastructure: The hostel has all facilities required for students. It has badminton, tennis, basketball courts, table tennis, carrom, chess, etc., and a gym as well. It helps in the overall development of students. It also has a movie theatre.
Faculty: Faculty members are very good because they are experts and even pass-outs from IITs or NITs. They teach in a manner includes theory and practical knowledge, with real-life examples. It helps us gain knowledge about several topics.

More than just academics - Life at NIT Rourkela.
Placements: Placements in the Mining dual degree branch at NIT Rourkela are decent. Around 70-90 percent of students get placed depending on the batch. The average package is around 6-8 LPA. Core mining companies like Coal India, Vedanta, and Tata Steel visiting. However, core opportunities are limited. So many students go for non-core roles like IT or analytics for better packages. Overall, placements are stable, but getting higher packages requires extra effort and skill development.
Infrastructure: As I'm a female student, we are first allotted KMS Hall, which is old, but the food here is good compared to the other hostels, however, a lot of cases of food poisoning were noticed last month. Rest, everything is available on campus, sometimes there are Wi-Fi issues. We have study rooms in every hostel. Classrooms and the library are really good. Events are organised regularly for sports and games. So, you can also grab what you're passionate about and not just studying. For the canteen, we got two of them. A day canteen and a night canteen.
Faculty: Faculty in the Mining department are qualified and experienced, but teaching quality can vary from professor to professor. Some are very helpful and explain concepts clearly, and others are more focused on theory. The course curriculum is relevant for core mining concepts, but it doesn't fully make students industry-ready, so practical learning and self-effort are important. Semester exams are moderately difficult and manageable if you study consistently. The pass percentage is quite high, and most students are able to clear exams.
Other: My dad is working in a mining-based company, so I already had some idea about the field. Because of that, I considered this course while filling out my college preferences. One of the good things about the course is that it gives strong core knowledge and decent opportunities in both core and non-core fields. However, I feel there could be more practical exposure. Apart from academics, the campus life is quite good with many fests, clubs, and activities to explore. The campus is well-connected and has all the basic facilities, overall, the experience is comfortable.

Review of NIT Rourkela - National Institute of Technology.
Placements: We have a placement cell at our college that helps us out a ton. They're always sending us emails and texts, so we're ready when companies show up. Many deserving students get internships in companies like IBM, TCS, Flipkart, and Microsoft. Most of these pay at least Rs. 5,000 per month as a stipend.
Infrastructure: Our college has nice buildings and gear, which is really helpful for Science students. Labs have all tools we need, and the library is solid. The hostel is big enough for students who live far away. The eating area is always clean. The food is alright, but I wish they made more things that students actually like to eat. Classrooms are small.
Faculty: The course curriculum is actually pretty interesting. First, it conducts mid-terms, and then finals. There is about one teacher for every ten students, which is nice. Teachers are highly educated and have worked in their fields for years. We can just go to their office for a chat or even text them if we need help.
Other: We have big tests every two months.
