 For a few courses, such as MA, BA, MLib, etc., admissions are completely based on merit in the last qualifying examination. Students must go through the Panjab University CHD-conducted/ national-level entrances and then appear for the university-level selection rounds for final admission at Panjab University.

After JEE session 2 is completed, only those candidates who are aiming for IITs need to start preparing for JEE Advanced after clearing JEE Main. Those who are above the 98th percentile should start preparing for JEE Advanced as soon as possible. Those below this, between the 95th and 98th percentile, should focus on attempting more mock tests and previous year question papers so that they have a better chance of clearing JEE Advanced

UIET is ranked among the best 30 engineering colleges in India. It has a very high placement percentage with an average pay package of INR 8.72 LPA in the year 2023. The University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) in Chandigarh, India, provides UG courses for roughly INR 2,89,000 and PG courses for around INR 47,980, excluding M.Tech Microelectronics.

The Panjab University accepts the GATE cutoff score for admission to the ME/ M.Tech courses. The GATE Cutoff 2023 ranged from 363 to 387 score for admission for the General category under the All India quota. The toughest and the easiest specialisation was M.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering and M.E. in Information Technology, respectively. 

More than 100 companies took part in the placement drive of Punjab University BTech placements 2025. The top recruiters include Amazon, Deloitte, Samsung, Adobe, Adani Group, Tech Mahindra, KPMG, Bain & Company, Optum, etc.
