TIET Patiala Admission 2026: Courses, Fees, Dates, Eligibility and Selection

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

TIET admission process includes the submission of the application form, entrance test, release of merit list, counselling process and final fee payment process. The step-by-step application process: 

1- Thapar University Application Process 

Visit the official website of the University and fill application form. The TIET application process is conducted in online mode. Candidates have to register through the official website of TIET to apply for any of the programmes. Below-mentioned steps by TIET application process:

Click on “Admission” and register. 

Fill out the application form by required details. 

Upload a scanned photo and documents 

Pay the application fee online via debit/ credit card or net banking. 

Documents required at the time of admission:

• Class 10 and Class 12 report card
• UG mark sheet (if applicable)
• PG mark sheet (if applicable)
• Date of birth certificate
• Passport-size photograph
• Transfer certificate
• Character certificate

2- Appear for the Entrance Test

Students appear for the entrance test i.e. JEE Main/ NEET for Thapar University BTech admission. 

3- Declaration of the Merit List 

The institute release the merit list along with the entrance test score and branch name.

4- Counselling Process & Fee Payment 

Final step is for counselling after merit list. After counselling students pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.

Thapar University does not hold its own BTech entrance exam; it's done through JEE Main, which is moderate to tough. MBA requires CAT, NMAT, or XAT, competitive exams. M.Tech GATE is challenging but can be cracked if one prepares for it.

The eligibility criteria to get admissions into MTech/ME courses at Thapar University are candidates must complete their BE/BTech/BSc/MSc degree in a relevant stream from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for reserved categories and industry-sponsored). Moreover, for the selection process, the university considers the scores of GATE followed by an interview process. 

Note: In case the MSc is a qualifying exam, the vacant seats (if any) shall be filled on the basis of merit prepared by giving 50% weightage to BSc marks and 50% weightage to MSc marks (up to the end of the pre-final year). An overall minimum of 60% (55% for SC/ST/industry-sponsored) in MSc shall be required to be eligible for admission.

Thapar University cutoff 2025 via JEE Main has been released for B.E./BTech courses in the form of opening and closing ranks. As per the Thapar University JEE Main cutoff 2025, the cutoff rank needed between 46226 and 223330. Similarly, the needed rank for OBC All India quota for one and only course, CSE, is 46226. Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Based on the JEE Main score and Class 12 scores, candidates are then called for the TIET Counselling process. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. For the admission to B.E./BTech courses, the Thapar University has released the JEE Main cutoff, wherein, the most and least preferred among the General All India category candidates were B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering and B.E. in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology), respectively. Thapar University offers four-year BE/BTech courses at the undergraduate level, candidates seeking admission to TIET Patiala must visit the official website of the University to apply online. Yes, TIET considers Class 12 marks for admission to the BE/BTech courses along with valid JEE Main scores. Based on the marks secured in the entrance exam, a merit list is prepared.
