Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

TIET admission process includes the submission of the application form, entrance test, release of merit list, counselling process and final fee payment process. The step-by-step application process: 

1- Thapar University Application Process 2025

Visit the official website of the University and fill application form. The TIET application process is conducted in online mode. Candidates have to register through the official website of TIET to apply for any of the programmes. Below-mentioned steps by TIET application process:

Click on “Admission 2025” and register. 

Fill out the application form by required details. 

Upload a scanned photo and documents 

Pay the application fee online via debit/ credit card or net banking. 

Documents required at the time of admission:

• Class 10 and Class 12 report card
• UG mark sheet (if applicable)
• PG mark sheet (if applicable)
• Date of birth certificate
• Passport-size photograph
• Transfer certificate
• Character certificate

2- Appear for the Entrance Test

Students appear for the entrance test i.e. JEE Main/ NEET for Thapar University BTech admission. 

3- Declaration of the Merit List 

The institute release the merit list along with the entrance test score and branch name.

4- Counselling Process & Fee Payment 

Final step is for counselling after merit list. After counselling students pay the admission fee to confirm their seats.

Thapar University offers a two-year full-time MCA course at the postgraduate level. The total seat intake for TIET MCA course is 35 including 5 FN/ NRI seats. In addition to the mentioned seats, 1% over and above seats are reserved for children of employees of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology. Thapar University admission to BE/BTech courses is both entrance and merit-based. TIET 50% seats will be filled on the basis of candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam and the rest 50% is based on the merit of marks secured in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. So, for JEE-qualified candidates, the minimum eligibility is to pass Class 12 or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ ST candidates). Candidates applying on the basis of their Class 12 marks must have passed the examination with not less than 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates).

Thapar University cutoff 2025 via JEE Main has been released for B.E./BTech courses in the form of opening and closing ranks. As per the Thapar University JEE Main cutoff 2025, the cutoff rank needed between 46226 and 223330. Similarly, the needed rank for OBC All India quota for one and only course, CSE, is 46226. For the admission to B.E./BTech courses, the Thapar University has released the JEE Main cutoff, wherein, the most and least preferred among the General All India category candidates were B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering and B.E. in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology), respectively. The cutoff rank for CSE and EE (VLSI and Tech.) as per the Thapar University JEE Main cutoff 2025, stood at 33379 and 77189 for the General AI category candidates. No, CAT is not compulsory to get admissions into the MBA course at Thapar University because the university accepts several other entrance examinations too for admission into the MBA course, such as MAT, SNAP, XAT, etc. Therefore, CAT can be considered as one of the accepted entrance examinations for admissions to MBA courses. However, it is not compulsory.

Yes, candidates appearing in their final exam for the BTech degree can apply for an M.Tech at Thapar University. However, such candidates have to submit their undertaking at the time of counselling stating that they are applying at their own risk, as their result of the final exam has not been declared, and ensure that they do not have any backlogs in previous semesters. Further, the undertaking also demands that students not expect any backlog in their final exam.
Moreover, candidates must produce their proof of passing the qualifying examination with the minimum aggregate required, i.e., 60% (55% for reserved categories),  before December 31, 2025. Failing to provide proof shall cancel their admission.
