Thapar University offers a four-year full-time BE/BTech course in Computer Science & Engineering at the undergraduate level. TIET offers a BTech CSE programme with a total seat intake of 180 students. The total tuition fee for TIET BTech CSE course is INR 14.58Lacs (As per an unofficial source). Talking about the placement of Thapar University BTech course, the median package offered was INR 8 LPA during TIET placements 2021. Considering the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2023, TIET was ranked 20 in the Engineering category. So, considering all these factors TIET is not a bad option for BTech CSE admission.

The university has not released the 2024 statistics of placed students. However, as per the official statistics, a year-on-year increase was observed in the total offers made from 2021 to 2023 drives. Likewise, an improving trend was recorded in the total number of students placed over the past three years. The total number of offers increased by nearly 39% from 2021 to 2022 and then further increased slightly from 2022 to 2023. On the other hand, the number of students placed increased by almost 31% from 2021 to 2022 and then increased by nearly 11% from 2022 to 2023. 
This improvement trend can be seen for BTech students and for other course students too. 

Thapar University admission to BE/BTech courses is both entrance and merit-based. TIET 50% seats will be filled on the basis of candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam and the rest 50% is based on the merit of marks secured in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Mathematics and any one subject out of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology and Technical Vocational subject. So, for JEE-qualified candidates, the minimum eligibility is to pass Class 12 or equivalent examination with a minimum aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ ST candidates). Candidates applying on the basis of their Class 12 marks must have passed the examination with not less than 70% marks (65% for SC/ST candidates).

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. Apart from JEE Main, TIET also accepts CAT/XAT/CMAT/MAT/GMAT/GRE/ Thapar Entrance Test for MBA and GATE for ME/ M.Tech admission. 

The University has released the highest package details for UG courses. During 2023 placements, the overall highest package for UG stood at INR 55.75 LPA, which was the highest amount recorded in the past five years. TIET offers MSc courses for the duration of two years, divided into four semesters, and offered in full-time mode. The basic eligibility requirement to qualify for the MSc courses is that candidates must  complete their graduation/BSc degree in the relevant/similar field according to the chosen specialisation. Moreover, the admission process is based on merit, which is assessed after examining candidates' scores in their Class 12 and graduation.
