Thapar University offers four-year full-time BE/BTech courses at the undergraduate level. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology admission to all the BE/BTech courses is based on candidates' performance in the JEE Main entrance exam except BTech in Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering. TIET BTech admission to Biotechnology and Biomedical Engineering is based on valid NEET 2023 marks, followed by a counselling process. TIET 50% of the seats will be filled basis of NEET scores and the rest 50% of the seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of marks obtained in Class 12 or equivalent examination in aggregate of three subjects, namely, Physics, Chemistry and, Biology.

Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Based on the JEE Main score and Class 12 scores, candidates are then called for the TIET Counselling process. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. During the counselling, Branch allocation is as per the Category, followed by JEEMain/ Class 10 + Class 12 PCM wise, seat availability, merit, and branch preference order filled in
the application form.

Thapar University admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses is based on candidates' performance in several national-level entrance exams. For TIET BTech admission, candidates must have class 12 and a valid JEE Main score. No, JEE Main is mandatory for BTech admission in Thapar University. The candidate should have a valid score in JEE Main and attend counseling to get a seat. But for other UG and PG courses such as MSc, MA, and MCA, admissions are made on a merit basis, i.e., JEE is not mandatory.
