The best thing about IIT Kanpur is its ongoing events and study going together.

Placements: 70-80% of students usually got placed and almost everyone got an offer. Sometimes, companies can apply cutoff criteria but it is fine. Many high-level companies like Microsoft, Google, BCG, and many other foreign as well as Indian companies hire students from my campus. The average package of all the departments ranges from 30-40 LPA.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of IIT Kanpur is already known and raised by everyone. It is 2nd in area-wise after IIT Kharagpur. Wi-Fi facilities are top-notch. We can get a Wi-Fi signal on roads too. The quality of the food is already known by everyone and it has the best of all IITs in serving mess facilities.

Faculty: Teachers are not like our school teachers and more like professors as they teach and go. But some of the teachers also try to be friendly with students. Semester exams are usually moderate to tough but if we study well, we can end up well.

Faculty members are highly qualified, good placement record, highly flexible academics, sports, fest

Placements: Recruiters recruited around 60-70% of students for this session. The highest salary package offered is 42 LPA. The average salary package offered is 23 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 13 LPA. Top recruiting companies are BHEL, etc. As many students prefer higher study in the ES department, they prefer foreign universities for research.

Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in almost all places, especially in classrooms, hostel rooms, a library, and a study area. The quality of the food is very good. It is served in a hygienic manner at both mess and canteen. There is a proper room cleaning along with pest control. Medical facilities are provided by a health center. All sports are available inside the campus.

Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified from the top world-ranking universities. They provide practical knowledge along with theory. They have a great teaching experience. The course curriculum is very flexible as one can choose other courses from different departments also.

Other: I chose this course because it is more about the study of rocks and processes. It includes further research options. Udghosh is a sports fest, Antragini is a cultural fest, and Techkriti is a technical fest. These are major fests that invite different celebrities.

Review of Earth Science Course, IIT Kanpur.

Placements: No good placements are available in my course as it is almost the last priority for companies. The highest package is around 30 Lacs, the lowest is around 0 to 3 Lacs, and the average is around 10 Lacs. Almost no core companies come to my college for placements and internships. Roles in my course include Geologist, Earth Scientist, and some others. Getting an internship is very hard in my course as it is a low-priority course.

Infrastructure: Labs have AC and are well-equipped. Classrooms and the library are shared by all students and have good infrastructure. The hostel is decent, but my room is small, though adjustable. The food in the mess is good but can sometimes be bad. We have good medical facilities here, and a bunch of free medicine is provided. Many sports and games are available.

Faculty: Teachers are good to some extent in teaching. They are helpful. The course is relevant for core profiles. More effort should be put into internships and placements, but it is hard for BS students to get placed in core companies. Exams are mainly subjective, which can make them feel a bit challenging. The pass percentage in my course is generally good.

Other: I chose this course because of IIT Kanpur. There are no exceptional aspects about my course regarding placements, internships, or guidance. You can connect with campus students by joining clubs, societies, etc. Events frequently happen through clubs, societies, and cells. Fests are technical, sports, and cultural. College scholarships are available, and you can also get scholarships from outside the campus.

Life at IITK is excellent, with beautiful infrastructure and good placements.

Placements: Earth sciences in IIT Kanpur is relatively the newest branch with only 30 seats. Out of 19 students, only 10 appeared for placements, and the rest went for further studies. 60% of students got placed. Mostly, students got placed in non-core analyst profiles. Only 20% of students got internships in agro-tech startups and software development companies. Top roles offered in core earth sciences are oil-coal field manager, geoscientist and geologist.

Infrastructure: The facilities in IIT Kanpur, like classrooms, PK Kelkar library and Wi-Fi are excellent. PK Kelkar library has almost all known books for each possible course which is monthly updated. Food in the mess is delicious, and balanced nutrition is maintained. HC (medical center) operates 24*7. Playing sports is highly encouraged, and there are grounds for tennis, badminton, football, and cricket. Inter-IIT sports meet is conducted every year.

Faculty: All the teachers are helpful, well qualified and highly knowledgeable. They are excellently helpful for research purposes. But some of them are not that good at teaching because they are good at research and deliver a lot of information. The course curriculum is relevant but vast. Some of them are industry-ready too, like applied geophysics students.

Other: I gave JEE advanced in 2017 and got a rank of about 6,000. I wanted to go for IIT Kanpur, so I chose earth sciences here. The best thing about my course is the vast knowledge that we get about our universe and minerals. The course content can be more practical and industry-driven to improve. Events and fests are awesome. Antaragni and Techkriti are the center of attraction in the entire Uttar Pradesh.

Satisfied with faculty, good infrastructure and facilities. This is a new department in IITK.

Placements: I have not completed my degree yet. I am in the 3rd year. I know there are no companies for earth science (BS) department. There is no salary package for earth science (BS) course. Only one student got an internship in Axis Bank. There are many opportunities in earth science department after MS programme in earth science department.

Infrastructure: There are very good facilities for this course. There are many labs related to this course and most of the work we do practically on software as well. There are air-conditioned classrooms for this department. Wi-Fi connection is very good. There is the best library. The quality of the facilities in the hostel is good. The good food is served in some hostels, but in some hostels, the food quality is not very good.

Faculty: Teachers here are very helpful. They are highly qualified and knowledgeable in our department and also other departments. Their teaching quality is excellent. The course makes students ready for company but after MS or M.Tech programme. There are no placements for BS students in earth science department.
