IIT Varanasi offers MSc in eight specialisations under two departments of Chemistry and Physics. The names of specialisations offered at the institute include Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Theoretical Physics, and Photonics.

A JEE Advanced rank of 3000 under OBC category can be considered as the decent rank, however, this rank is insufficient to secure BTech in CSE programme in 2024. The rank required for admission to IIT BHU varies depending on the programme and the category of the candidate (General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.). For admission to BTech at IIT BHU, candidates must appear for the JEE Main and paticipate in the JoSAA counselling process. JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes, including IITs, JoSAA3 IIITs, and Other-Government Funded Technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). To apply at JoSAA, candidates must register and apply via the JoSAA official website. The counselling has an application fee, which must be paid while submitting the form.
