One of the most important factors is category. If you have a Common Merit Rank (CMR) of 7000, you must be excited to know whether you will get admission in NIFT. More than 30,000 candidates appear for the NIFT entrance exam every year, and if you get a 7000 rank, you are in the top 20- 25 % test takers. The acceptance rate of NIFT is around 12-15 % every year. What should I do if my rank is around 7000 in NIFT 2026?
A NIFT Common Merit Rank (CMR) around 7000 may not be enough for top campuses or highly demanded courses like Fashion Communication or Fashion Design in Delhi and Mumbai, but you still have the option for:
- Fill Maximum Choices for all the NIFT Colleges, especially newer NIFTs such as NIFT Raipur, NIFT Varanasi. Do not restrict yourself to only top campuses.
- Participate in Every Round of NIFT counselling. Seats open up after: Float options, Withdrawals, Upgradation rounds.
- Do not skip the spot round of Counselling. Spot rounds often surprise students with unexpected openings.
- Use Domicile Quota. Some campuses reserve seats for home-state candidates like NIFT Shillong, NIFT Varanasi, NIFT Jodhpur, NIFT Srinagar, etc
- Go for less competitive design specialisations.

NIFT and UCEED are equally tough. NIFT has more levels or stage where as UCEED has only one level. UCEED focuses more on Graphic design, Product Design, etc., whereas NIFT focuses on Fashion design, Textile design, etc. The difficulty level of the exam depends on the preparation of the candidates.

The candidate will be able to select their programme of study at the time of counseling and seat allotment.
