Once the NIFT Entrance Exam is over and the results are declared, the final race begins, that is, Counselling and Seat Allotment. In this phase, candidates will get to know which college they will be getting into at a particular rank. Getting admission to NIFT depends upon many factors, such as scores, category, weightage, preference, cutoff, etc. Read in detail if your Common Merit Rank (CMR) is around 1500.
Is 1500 a good rank in NIFT?
If your NIFT rank is 1500 or 1500+ and you are wondering if 1500 is a good rank for getting into a NIFT Institute, then let me tell you that a Common Merit Rank of 1500 is a decent rank to secure a NIFT College. You can get colleges, like NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Kolkata, if you belong to OBC, ST, SC or EWS Category. If you are from General Category, then the chances of getting top NIFT Colleges are less. However, you can still get into these colleges for specialisations like Knitwear, Accessory Design, Leather Design, etc. The chances of getting Fashion Communication and Fashion Design at the 1500 rank are very low for the General Category.

Yes, you can check NIFT cutoff of previous year to get an idea of seat allotment and counselling. When checking cutoff table, you should check programme and respective category. After checking cut-off and analyzing trends, you need to prepare accordingly.
The cut-off of NIFT for the various academic courses is not fixed. This is because the cut-off depends on variables like seat intake, the performance of applicants in the NIFT exam, total number of applications received for admission, etc. Now these variables may change from year to year. For instance, the number of candidates appearing in NIFT and qualifying the exam may be different across the years. And when that happens, the cut-off also changes. Typically, if the seat intake increases, the cut-off goes down and vice versa. Likewise, if the number of applicants increases, expect a higher cut-off.

There is no fixed number of mock tests one should take before the NIFT Entrance Exam. A candidate should take at least one mock test daily for the NIFT Entrance Preparation. 10-15 mock tests will really help in preparing for the exam.
