IISc Bangalore Highlights 2026
IISc Bangalore was founded in 1909 as a Public University in Bangalore. Jamsetji Tata was one of the founding fathers of IISc Bangalore, and hence it is also known as the 'Tata Institute'. The IISc Bangalore campus is spread over 400 acres. IISc Bangalore University is ranked 1st by NIRF 2025 under the Universities category, and 2nd under the 'Overall' category. Globally, it was ranked 211 by QS World University Rankings 2025. The university is affiliated to the the All Indian Universities (AIU) and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU). There is no University-wise IISC entrance exam required for BTech course, students need to clear JEE and JEE Mains. If the student qualifies any of this mentioned-exam and you have top rank is qualify for Indian Institute of Science course admissions. Every year cut off is different but you need top ranks.
The answer to this question depends on the course you are applying at IISC.
For Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme, aspirants are offered admission based on JEE Main score. Hoewever, for BSc programme admission, JEE is not compulsory. Candidates with a valid score in IISER Aptitude Test can also get admission. For other courses such as MTech, MSc and PhD, JEE Main is not required for admission at Indian Institute of Science (IISC).
To be eligible for BSc an IISc Bangalore, candidates must meet with the minimum eligibility criteria set by the institute and go through the selection rounds accepted by the institute. Details around the same are as follows:
- Eligibility: A pass in Class 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects in their qualifying exam along with any other subjects with first class or 60% aggregate (relaxed to just pass for SC/ ST students)
- Selection: Merit list of one of the national examinations, among Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) KVPY (Stream-SA)/ JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/ NEET (UG) and IISER Aptitude Test
NOTE:
- Candidate must be qualified in any one of the exams mentioned above, and the exam result must be valid as on Aug 1 of the year of admission.
- IISER Aptitude Test is introduced as a new mode of entry for the academic year 2024. Candidates have to apply directly on the IISc admission portal to apply through this mode.

IISc Bangalore Courses and Fees 2026
The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, offers a variety of UG, PG and PhD level courses divided across 45 academic departments organised into six divisions. These departments offer over 738 programmes, including BSc (Research), BTech (Mathematics and Computing), MTech, MDes, MSc, and PhD programmes across a range of disciplines including Engineering, Science, and Management. IISER is a compulsory entrance test to get into the IISER Pune. IISER 2026 entrance exam will be conducted in computer-based test mode. The duration of the entrance exam is three hours, from 9 AM to 12 noon.
IISc Bangalore Admission Process and Important Dates 2026
IISC Bangalore offers different programmes, including undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, PG Diplomas, and Certificate courses. All the programmes are available in full-time mode. IISc Bangalore Infrastructure
The campus size of the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore is spread over 400 acres. It has separate hostels for boys and girls with well furnished rooms and internet connectivity. The other facilities provided to the students of the college include:
- Library: IISc has a grand Central Library with a large collection of books, journals, and electronic resources, including online access to major Scientific Databases.
- Hostels: There is also hostel accommodation for the students on the IISc campus. A common room is also provided in the IISc hostel that has a television for entertainment and leisure time. They have hostels for both boys and girls. Along with that, it has a mess facility for food.

IISc Bangalore: How to Reach?
IISc Bangalore is about 35 km from the airport. One could take a taxi from the airport. The city railway station is about 7 km from the IISc Bangalore campus. One will have to leave the station from platform number one to reach the taxi stand. Majestic (7kms from IISc) is the central Bus stand in Bengaluru and is just opposite the City Railway Station. If one happens to reach Majestic, Bengaluru by bus, go to the city bus platform number 22, from where almost all city buses come to the Institute.

The difficulty level of CEED exam has been maintained by authorities over the years. However, most design aspirants share that if difficulty level of all design entrance exams conducted for PG level courses is compared then CEED is slightly easier than NID Entrance Exam. This is primarily because the drawing questions asked in NID that are considered to be tougher than those put forth in CEED exam. Note that CEED exam is for admission to the M.Des courses offered by the eight participating colleges. Meanwhile, the NID that for the M.Des programme has three participating colleges.

IISc Bangalore offers admission to candidates based on their scores in the entrance exam. Candidates are selected for BSc via JEE Main, JEE Advanced, IISER Aptitude Test, NEET or KVPY scores. The institute also considers scores in GATE, IIT JAM, etc. for admission to other courses-BTech, MSc, MTech.
