BITS Pilani and IISc Bengaluru have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at advancing collaborative research and promoting academic excellence.

BITS Pilani Partners with IISc Bengaluru

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership between two of India’s leading institutions. This collaboration aims to strengthen academic and research ties, foster innovation, enable knowledge exchange, and jointly pursue breakthroughs in science and technology.

Under the MoU, the institutions will engage in joint research projects, host symposia and workshops, facilitate the exchange of students and researchers, and co-develop academic programs across undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. The partnership will also allow BITS Pilani researchers to access IISc’s advanced research infrastructure, including the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), to further enhance their scientific pursuits.

The MoU also places a strong emphasis on intellectual property (IP) management, ensuring that jointly developed innovations are properly protected and strategically leveraged. In addition, both institutions will collaborate to secure research funding and publish impactful findings, further advancing their shared contribution to India’s academic and industrial landscapes.

The MoU was signed by Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani and Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director, IISc, Bengaluru in the presence of Prof Suman Kundu, Director, BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus and Prof Radhika Vathsan, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, BITS Pilani, Prof. Shankar Kumar Selvaraja, CeNSE-IISc, Prof. Sushobhan Avasthi CeNSE-IISc, Prof. Supradeepa V. R CeNSE-IISc and Prof.Dhavala Suri CeNSE-IISc. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rao, BITS Pilani, said, “This partnership with IISc marks a significant milestone in our journey toward academic and research excellence. By combining the strengths of both institutions, we aim to address critical challenges in science and technology while nurturing a new generation of innovators and researchers.”

Prof Rangarajan from IISc added, “Collaborations like this are essential to drive impactful research and innovation. We are excited to create opportunities for knowledge exchange and to jointly contribute to solving some of the most pressing scientific and societal challenges.”

Q:   Is BITS, Goa campus better than the BITS, Pilani campus?
A:
BITS has a total of four campuses, and these are located in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai. The highest package offered during BITS Goa placements 2023 was INR 60.75 LPA whereas the highest package offered during BITS Pilani placements 2023 was INR 22 LPA. Similarly, the average package offered during BITS Goa placements 2023 was INR 30.37 LPA whereas the average package offered during BITS Pilani placements 2023 was INR 15.9 LPA. Moreover, both the colleges are accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with an A Grade.
