DU’s Prof. Shri Prakash Singh Appointed Vice Chancellor of Garhwal University

A distinguished academic, Prof. Singh earned his MA, MPhil, and PhD from DU and has been a Professor in the Political Science Department. Since December 17, 2021, he has led DU’s South Campus.
Prof. Shri Prakash Singh from the University of Delhi (DU) has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) in Uttarakhand by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu.
Currently serving as Director of DU’s South Campus, Prof. Singh’s appointment has sparked widespread joy at DU, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balram Pani, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, and Culture Council Chairperson Anoop Lather expressing gratitude to the President.
A distinguished academic, Prof. Singh earned his MA, MPhil, and PhD from DU and has been a Professor in the Political Science Department. Since December 17, 2021, he has led DU’s South Campus. Previously, he served as Associate Professor of Political Science at DU’s Sri Aurobindo College from December 15, 1995, to May 28, 2014, and held the Dr. Ambedkar Chair in Social Justice at the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, from May 29, 2014, to July 23, 2015. He currently chairs the Governing Boards of DU’s Centre for Hindu Studies and Centre for Tribal Studies and has led various university committees.
Prof. Singh’s appointment strengthens HNBGU’s leadership, ranked 501-510 in the QS World University Rankings 2025, with a strong regional reputation (top 200 in Asia, QS Asia Rankings 2025). In contrast, DU, where Prof. Singh has spent his career, ranked 328 globally in QS 2025, with IIT Delhi leading India at 150. His move to HNBGU is expected to enhance academic and research initiatives, leveraging his expertise in political science and social justice. DU’s community celebrates this milestone, anticipating his contributions will elevate Garhwal University’s standing.

Yes, now Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University will not be conducting an entrance exam separately. HNBGU admission to most of the undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated courses is now based on candidates' performance in the CUET entrance exam, conducted by NTA. Candidates with a valid CUET score are then required to go through an online counselling round conducted by HNBGU.
