How to prepare for UPCATET?

Before you get down to start preparing for the course applied for, be it BSc, BFSc, MSc, BVSc or postgraduate courses, the first step is building the right strategies before getting down to study.  Aspirants who are appearing for the entrance exam need to have a plan and aim in mind in order to score well and qualify. Like how much can you cover in one day or in six hours or three hours? Candidates can go through the following tips steps on how to prepare for the entrance test.

Know the UPCATET Pattern

First and foremost, the candidate needs to be well versed with the exam pattern. One should know which sections will carry the most marks, the duration of the exam, the mode and medium of the entrance exam, how many questions will be asked and the weightage of marks. With different groups in UPCATET, you should know how many marks Physics carries or how much will general studies carry.

Know the UPCATET Marking Scheme

Along with the exam pattern, students should know the marking scheme of the UPCATET marking scheme. If you are not thorough with the exam pattern and marking scheme, it will be quite tough to prepare your plan before you get down to write.

Know the UPCATET Syllabus

The main aspect of preparation is knowing the syllabus. Strategize your plans on an hourly, daily and weekly basis. There is no success without hard work and in order to qualify for the entrance exam, you can prepare better by knowing which topics to cover in-depth and which sections will require superficial knowledge such as general studies. You can do so by following the below-mentioned pointers:

  • Segregate the subjects and topics into easy and difficult categories based on experience.
  • Make a subject-wise list of topics.
  • Note down the topics which carry maximum weightage (based on previous years’ question papers).
  • Cover the subjects thoroughly and know the important topics which have to be covered.

It is advised that you purchase at least two to three prep books to help better understand the test. The prep books will give you an idea of the syllabus, know what type of questions that can be asked in the entrance exam and much more. Prep books of subject wise will only help you understand the topics much more and you will be more confident when you go to appear for UPCATET.

Prepare a Time Table

One of the most important elements while preparing for an entrance exam is time management. Candidates need to work out a time table as to how much material to cover on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. On creating a plan, the candidate can cover all the topics which are to come in the entrance exam. Revise the syllabus and content, attempt as many question papers, mock papers and previous years’ question papers to better help prepare.

Refer to Past Years’ Question Papers

Through previous years exam papers, you can understand what type of questions are asked, the importance given to each section, the subjects which carry more weightage, the marking scheme and much more which you can understand altogether.

Solve Sample Papers and Mock Tests

The best way to know one’s strengths and weaknesses is by solving question papers, sample papers and mock tests. If you’re having trouble in a topic, try and answer the questions asked. You can only build on your weak aspects and can only build and become more confident. It will only help you understand better what questions you should focus on, what the objectives are and what all can be written. Through this, you can also figure out the best approach to be followed when you head out to attempt the UPCATET.
