  • Avoid wearing caps or mufflers. Sikh students may wear a turban instead of a cap. In such cases, students are advised to reach the exam centers a bit early to allow for hassle-free security checks.

  • Try to avoid any sort of metallic objects like jewellery, rings, and belts.

  • Students are advised to avoid jackets, hoodies, and extra layers of clothing.

  • Students can opt to wear chappals or sandals rather than closed footwear.

Female students appearing for IIT JAM 2026 exam are encouraged to wear comfortable and simple attire. To ensure a smooth and secure examination process, please adhere to the following dress code guidelines:

  • Choose simple and comfortable clothing options such as kurtas, simple dresses, tops, and trousers.
  • Avoid wearing any metal jewellery, including rings, bracelets, necklaces, and heavy earrings.
  • Refrain from wearing belts or clothing with metallic buttons.
  • Keep hairstyles simple and avoid any elaborate hair accessories.
  • Avoid applying tattoos to your hands.

IIT JAM 2026 Exam Day Guidelines

The following points bring the Dos and Don’ts to be followed on the day of IIT JAM 2026 exam.

  • Reach the exam centre 90 minutes before the scheduled time for the test commencement.
  • Students were permitted to enter the exam hall 40 minutes before the test, and after student registration and photo capture, they were allowed to log in 20 minutes before the test and go through the instructions.
  • They had to take the seat assigned to their Roll Number and no other seat or centre, which would lead to the cancellation of their candidature.
  • Students were not allowed to enter the test centre 30 minutes after the start of the exam.
  • Students were allowed to leave the centre before the exam ended.
  • During the examination, a virtual scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen.
  • A scribble pad will be provided for rough work. Write your name and registration number before using it and return it to the invigilator at the end of the exam. Additional scribble pads may be obtained after returning the previous pad.

Banned Items at IIT JAM 2026 Exam Centre

The following items are barred from carrying to the exam centre:

  • Books, copies or papers of any kind.
  • Mobile phones, calculators, watches or any other electronic or digital devices.
  • Bags or wallets.

The exam authorities have also mentioned that there would not be any place to keep students’ personal belongings; you should ideally not carry any personal belongings, except the permitted items, inside the exam hall.
